Volvo's new swivel car seat concept

I think this is cool if it could be interchangeable. Also, if it could be legal. Also, if it didn't cost a fortune.

Still a neat concept (which is all it is at this point). Thoughts?

I'll be interested to see how the concept is applied to reality, but I hope other manufacturers catch on.

But, what happens if you have two children under 4? And would it have to be the Volvo carseat, or would a standard carseat fit into the system, so it could be integrated with strollers?

This is the biggest question I have. I haven't seen answers for it yet, but it is still a concept.

I have too many questions that I would need to be answered before I could get on board with this. Yea, having the baby more accessible to the driver is a cool concept... but does it go past that and also become as safe of an option as having baby in the backseat?

I think it is great that car manufacturers are trying to cater to families, but I also want them to be doing it in the safest way possible. I think it is a good thing that these concepts are being explored; it will be interesting to see how all of this pans out.

ETA: I think it would be more distracting for the driver to have the baby next to them. I feel like it would do more harm than good.

I don't think I would buy a car simply because the front seat is a car seat. What happens if I have more than one kid? What happens if me & multiple adult people need to go somewhere without the kids? What happens when the kid is no longer in a rear facing car seat? I just buy a new car? Does Volvo think I'm made of money?

I think this whole concept is actually all kinds of stupid & not at all practical for my lyfe.

Car companies are always coming up with crazy concepts and innovations that don't ever make it to production. I can't see this going anywhere.

I don't see how having the car seat in the front would be more distracting. Mind you, this is coming from someone who has no kids, so I could be waaay off base. If the kid is content, I don't think I would worry. If the kid is crying, it's distracting (to me at this point) regardless. But maybe if they are close by, I can give him/her a pacifier or whatever to calm them down.

I just feel icky about the whole front seat thing.

+1 for way too distracting for the driver. I can barely focus properly with my dog in the front seat much less my own spawn.

That is not safe at all! It said further down in the article "The Excellence Child Seat Concept, which also provides a function to help small children safely lean back and sleep, is based on Volvo's clear safety position". A child traveling in the front seat is not safe. They need to be in the back. I agree back center. DD was rear facing until a week ago and I always sat with her. If I was driving I could see her clearly in the mirror we got.

the safest place for a car seat or a child is in the back seat. i remember this from all the parent safety classes. it looks very dangerous. and boy have car seats come a long way. my son's seat was from the dino ages. (17yrs ago)
