Along the same lines, I wasn't allowed to read Harry Potter when it first came out. I went to a super conservative Christian school and my family jumped on the "hate on Harry" bandwagon for some mind boggling reason.
When I got older, they regained their sanity and we've all seen the movies, but I just never went back to read the books.
I agree that I don't get the whole Harry Potter thing, I just never got into it but to say it's a series for children is inaccurate. Fancy Nancy is a series for Children, those to series are far from on the same level.
Well the first Harry Potter book came out when I was 12... so I don't really see a problem with continuing to like it?
And even if I hadn't read them in my tweens/teens... I don't think there's a problem with it now. (FYI I'm 28... so I'm assuming a lot people on this forum started reading them at least in their teens.)
I do not like Harry Potter and side eye any adult who does. It's a series for children!
Boo hiss!
I still follow a number of authors that I started reading when I was a YA, and they're still publishing stuff now. They were good then, and they're still good now. Added bonus: super fast reads! Harry Potter is tied for my favorite.
I don't side eye anyone for reading anything. I am legitimately puzzled by people who don't read.
I don't like SUVs or minivans. Or cars, really, but if I have to drive one, I want it to be small.
After driving a small SUV and, now, a minivan, there's no way I could go back to a "regular" sized car. Before we got the van, DH had an older Camry and I HATED driving it because it felt so weird to me to sit so low to the ground. Of course, in the days pre-SUV, I had no issues. It's just now that I'm so used to driving up high.

I do really love the driving up high.
I never wanted an SUV, but it turns out Outbacks are now categorized as small SUVs or something, they're not wagons anymore.
With two huge dogs and kids, the big car was needed. I tried to look into cars like the Prius V, but it just wasn't going to cut it with our family/pack size!
I hate pickles, onions, olives, peppers, and mushrooms as they are. If they are minced and in stuff like say a pickled relish in tuna salad I'm good, or onion rings/blooming onions because well those are just flat out delicious. If I can see it, cooked or not, i'll pick it out put it off to the side on my plate or if someone wants them I let them have it.

I can get behind hatred for pickles, olives, and mushrooms

I mean, have you read Harry Potter? Yeah, it starts out pretty tame and geared toward children but even by the end of Book 4, Adult Shit is happening. It is accessible to children, sure, but universal truths are for all of mankind.

Me too!!!!! I wasn't allowed to read them and then by the time I grew up I wasn't interested in them. I read the first book and saw the first movie and they didn't really do it for me, but I think I would have loved them as a kid. Yay ultra-religious schools !
