Dumpster Diving for Beauty Products?

So I was just reading this article:

Dumpster Diving for Beauty Products

So, some of the people who do this are doing it to get products for themselves, but some are doing it to sell. One of the guys they interviewed makes all his income selling beauty products he got out of dumpsters.

Thoughts?

That's my general thought. Maybe, if it still had all the original seals on it, but even then I'd be pretty wary of it. But maybe I'm just overly cautious.

This rubs me wrong:

For real though. I don't think I want dumpster beauty supplies. A lot of that stuff does not do well in the heat or cold, so I would worry about the integrity of the new stuff. And the used stuff, well ew.

I remember reading about people doing it in airport dumpsters with the 'new' TSA regulations, since tons of products were being thrown out for being over-sized.

I personally would not do that, or the freeganism movement.

Are these stores really throwing away that much stuff?

I'd rather go without than use thrown out products. Who knows why they throw some things out. There may have been a recall on a batch for good reasons and you wouldn't know plus I would not want to use something someone else has used on their face.

The only time I kind of dumpster dive is when people put nice things outside the big dumpsters at apartment complexes because they hope someone else will want it. In our first apartment we had a dumpster leather recliner chair. We do the same thing when throwing out perfectly nice things that we won't use like our old fish tank.

Reading through it, it seems like not anymore. But one guy mentioned that in the 90s when he started doing it he could get 30 or 40 boxes of stuff to sell in a single dumpster.

Nope.

I watched one of the dumpster diving documentaries, and while I lament the amount of good food, etc. that ends up in a dumpster, I do not wish to eat or use it.

Yes to the bolded. Sometimes you find really good stuff! And a lot of furniture/larger items can be easily cleaned - particularly if they're not cloth.

I wouldn't pay for it but hey, if you want to help eliminate waste and use stuff that is probably still fine then go for it.
