Hi all!
I just wanted to introduce myself, as I'm sure that I'll have a lot of questions in the coming months.
My little girl was born at 28+6 weeks, after hemorrhaging several times due to placenta previa and ultimately going into preterm labor (which they were able to delay with magnesium sulfate, but weren't able to stop with 3 rounds of terbutaline when contractions resumed the following week).
She's now been in the NICU for 10 days and has thankfully been making some great improvements. She's now off the bili lights/blanket and has transitioned from the CPAP to a nasal cannula. And she is finally tolerating my breastmilk after two previous failed attempts at trying to feed her. So good things .
My only question as of now is...at what week were your babies born and how long did they spend in the NICU? I've been given the standard expectation of her being in the NICU until her due date, but I'm hoping that she'll be able to come home sooner than that.
Thanks in advance and best wishes to all of those currently pregnant! Hoping for a happy and healthy (full) 9 months for you all!
Welcome & congrats! Sorry you have to join us. My son was born at 27w3d, spent 68 days in the NICU (went home when he was 37w gestational). We were incredibly lucky, he really didn't have any major setbacks even with how early he was. Anyway, lots of luck to you, hope your NICU stay is short & uneventful.
Welcome! My twins were born at 29+3. DD1 came home the day after her due date, and DD2 came home 3 days later on O2 and still with an NG tube). Eating was just the biggest barrier for them -- they really struggled to get bottling down. We thankfully had no other set backs -- they just needed lots of time to earn to eat & breathe!
Welcome! Congratulations on your baby girl! DS1 was born at 32w3d and spent 24 days in the NICU. He came home around 36w gestation. His biggest hurdle was learning how to eat.
I hope your NICU stay is smooth and as short as possible!

Welcome to our board and congrats!!
My son was born at 26 weeks and was in the NICU for 115 days. But ignore that because he is a weirdo Wishing for the best for you and your little one! Sounds like her breathing is going really great!!
Hi! I went into labor at 28+2 and my twins were born at 29+6 (gotta both love and absolutely hate magnesium sulfate), 3#7oz and 3#2oz. They stayed in the NICU for 60 and 69 days respectively, my daughter only coming home 3 days before my due date (which pissed me off a lot). On the other hand, a 28+4 weeker in our unit went home before my son, despite having more actual health problems than either of my kids (who were free of brain bleeds and off all forms of breathing assistance before the end of their second week). So it's really hard to know. The nurses thought my kids would be home at 36 weeks because they made so much progress so fast at the beginning, but feeding and sleeping desats just ended up lingering for weeks. Hang in there, it's really great that your little girl is off of CPAP!
Congratulations on your daughter! Sounds like she's made good progress already. I hope your nicu stay is short and uneventful!
My son was born at 34+2 weeks, and spent 18 days in the Nicu. (due date was 4/15. Came home 3/24). Most of it was spent learning how to eat and getting him to gain weight. He was never on oxygen, or an iv (except for the first two days as precaution for infection, which he didn't have). He spent 3 days under bili lamps and another 2 days in a bili blanket. On day 5, they put in an ng feeding tube to help him get the minimum feed order. He'd nurse with me first and then they'd gavage the difference. By day 11 or 12 he was taking full feeds by breast or bottle (of pumped milk). He was supposed to go home on day 14, but he had a one time apnea/Brady spell the day before discharge, after getting circumcised and we had to stay an extra 5 days.

Congrats on the birth of your daughter. I have been through this twice and I've learned that no baby is the same.
DS1 was born 35+1 spent 21 days. He had IUGR which I have now learned is likely why he picked up on eating so fast. He came out wanting to eat because he had been lacking nutrients he needed to grow.
DS2 was born 35 weeks and came home after q36 days. (One day after his due date). His biggest hurdle as others have said was eating.
I'm right there with you! My twin boys were born 3 weeks ago. I was 28 weeks and 2 days along. It sounds like your LO is doing great! One of ours is still on the breathing tube and the other on the CPAP. I can't wait until they're both on the nasal canula. The NICU is a nerve wracking place. I'm sorry your LO is there.

Hi all! Blake Olivia ended up coming home after 44 days in the NICU, more than a month ahead of her due date! She's been home for a week and a half now and has been doing great! Thank you so much for your answers and well wishes!
