This sounds like my local grocery store. I definitely prefer to bag my own groceries and the quarter (now loonie, not as happy about this) for a cart is NBD.
Do you get the quarter back?
They had the pay to use the cart thing when we were in Scotland and Ireland DH wouldn't pay the fee. Our basket weighed like 40lbs.
You get the quarter back when you return the cart and lock it back to the others (it's easier than it may sound). No cart corrals in the parking lot and no stray carts.
Plus last time someone handed over their cart to me directly and didn't let me give them my quarter.

Oops, you may already know this about Aldi and were asking momofcatan. I'm overly enthusiastic

Same here. It amazing how many fewer carts you see all over the place because people want their quarter back.
I really like Aldi. The produce can be hit or miss but generally I've liked everything we've tried and it is cheap. I like the quarter to use a cart method. I love that people shopping there help each other out, at least at mine. I like not having someone else bag my groceries. I am a total weirdo though.

I'm assuming it's a Loblaws store? The only ones around here who do the loonie carts are anyways. For the longest time my extra foods sold cart coins for $2. Basically they are shaped like a loonie but have a hole and a little clip so you could attach it to your keys. The proceeds from the coins went to a children's charity (don't remember which one, I bought mine years ago) and it was super convenient because it was always on my keys. I never had to search my purse or cup holders for loonies.
This is inspired by my recent stepping in dog poop....i think instead fining dog owners for not cleaning up after their dogs ...i think they should lose the ability to own a pet.
Ok I'm not a dog owner but I do have a heart! No it's not polite to leave dog poop but let's think about all of the what ifs. What if the dog went 2 or 3 times and they ran out of bags? What if they forgot a bag? What if something happened? What if the person with the dog had a baby, toddler and the dog and honestly didn't notice! It's gross yes but as they say.... Shit happens...

That is interesting because here Loblaws really tries to be the "premium" brand. They only have the coin carts at No Frills. At Loblaws they have an underground mechanism (assuming magnetic) that simply locks the carts if you go past the invisible barrier.

Our store recently changed to a Your Independent Grocer. Still Loblaws but the franchise is owned on a local level. It is much more along the lines of a "premium" store now and we no longer have coin carts. The No Frills all do, as well as every Superstore I have been to in the city all still have loonie carts. There are no actual Loblaws stores out this way though, so I have no experience with that one
