It's super popular, but I still think it's a beautiful name. I personally wouldn't use a top ten name unless I had been in love with it for ages. If that's the case, go for it.

I've loved it for years but it is so popular I would only consider it for a MN. If you love it go for it, at least you know people will recognize Sophia
Popular in other areas, not so much in mine.. I don't know a single one, my daughter has never had any in her classes, etc. But I think it's gorgeous and I would use it despite what # it is on the list. I don't care about popularity, though (my DD is Alexis). If popularity bothers you, I'd probably avoid it.
I think it depends on where you live. I live in the NJ/NY area and there are so many of them. However, I think it is such a beautiful name and imo you give a child a name you love a lot not based on how many other people have the name.

We live in a small town and there aren't any little Sophia's here, but I know there is a world outside of our small remote rural community. I think we're going to short list it. We're team green so we may not even need a girl name in the end.
Not for me! It was a top contender if we had a girl (but we had a boy.) Popularity doesn't bother me if I love a name, and Sophia is beautiful and classic. Even if it is popular, I don't consider it "trendy."
I don't think a name can be too popular if it's a great name and you love it. The only reason I'd hesitate is if I knew a bunch personally and that's more of a confusion thing.

I didn't want a super popular name for my daughter and picked Jocelyn. I knew no Jocelyn's and loved the name, it wasn't super popular when I was pregnant, but it blew up right after her birth and the day care I worked for had 4 baby Jocelyn's enroll. So when I wanted to give my son the name Liam I did despite the popularity. It was a name that meant a lot to me and it doesn't bother me that he's not the only Liam in his Sunday school class. If you love Sophia then go for it.

It's really popular, but for a classic like Sophia that would be an issue for me if I loved it. (Personally I don't love it, but that's me. I wouldn't side-eye anyone using it.)
Sophia was a contender for us, but instead we went with a Hindi name that we really liked. We knew we'd be going with one of two really popular names: her name is "everyone-knows-a" here in India, but will be virtually unknown outside the country. If we went with Sophia, it would have been "unknown" here, but "everyone-knows-a" in the US/Canada.
