michelin82 you are not a failure! Parenting is tough and ever evolving. You'll figure it out, but in the meantime vent here and have plenty of wine and chocolate handy. Hugs mama!
So I've really been struggling in the breastfeeding dept this time around. Nora has a terrible latch, is super messy and always fussy. I've been having to use a nipple shield always which I'm not too happy about. I had suspected a lip tie but then thought I was being a hypochondriac so I didn't pursue it. Should have known better... I went to the health unit today to get a weight on her (she's 1 month exactly) and decided to ask the health nurse about it. She checked, then had another nurse come in for a second opinion. Both concluded that she definitely has an upper lip and a tongue tie. She's been gaining weight alright (7lbs 9oz at birth, 9lbs 10oz today, 75th percentile) so that's good news. But I feel so much better knowing there is a reason for all of our difficulties and that it can be fixed. We have an appt to have both snipped on Aug 6
Good afternoon! I fell behind last week, but hope everyone had a good weekend. We were only able to do one fun family thing Sat afternoon because DH had to go into work Sat morning and all day Sunday. I got my iPhone screen fixed! Yay. A hundred bucks. Crazy. But, it had cracked more, so it definitely needed it. The speech therapist is coming next Tuesday for P's evaluation. I'm curious what she says and what tips she can give me. I don't think he'll qualify for the early intervention program based on NY laws. Which is fine. I just want some ideas to help him myself going forward.
So my coworker who's daughter got jumped had his rental car broken into and they stole everything including his ID and credit cards. I don't know why he left them in the car, but as a result he couldn't fly back to Colorado. Houston doesn't play.
Your poor coworker. Granted he shouldn't of left those things in the car but still! How's his daughter doing?
michelin82 hi!! I've been thinking about you, wondering how you were doing. That sounds absolutely crazy and I don't have any ideas. But none of it makes you a bad mother or any type of failure. Hang in there and enjoy some wine or your drink of choice.
subliminalrabbit I hope you get a chance to relax soon! And find someone you trust to talk to when you move. E is just the cutest and you're doing great.
daffy2k glad you asked about it! Hopefully it will make things better after they're clipped.

Random but who has a rice cooker that they love? A has been wanting one but I know nothing about them. He wants an old one of his moms but we'd need a converter for it since it's from Korea. (I don't even know if she still has it at this point lol) His birthday is in September and I'd like to surprise him with one.

You know... the more and more I think about it...the more I think Kael had a lip tie. I was just too quick to give up BF to have it checked.
Is there a way to tell at this age? Or has that ship sailed?

michelin82 Oh hon. You're not a failure- he's three. Three is THE WORST. Survive and advance. That's all you can do. Get past this year and it will be better. Different. A little easier. Hugs. PM me any time!

workinit or everydayimshuffling may know more... But my understanding is that lip ties can sometimes interfere with teeth so maybe ask the dentist? I don't know if they can disappear on their own, but truthfully I feel like I may have a bit of one (I can feel it when I stick my tongue up between my lip and gums). My mom did breastfeed me, but she says I was never fond of it and preferred a bottle. I wonder now if a mild lip tie was the reason.
And does the Today Show have a pet dog? Like for the show? I'm confused. It's odd.
Randomly in the office on a Monday... That's their dog that they are raising and training to be a "puppy with a purpose." He is going to be a working dog at some point. He is training to be a service doggie.
Hi butterflies!!
I'm just catching up, but G loves Wrangler. When Al Roker goes to do the weather, G goes "doggie!" since Wrangler's area is right behind it.
anustart1 I'd probably take G to the party and even ask the host if Arlo can come too. If most of the attendees are atypical developmentally, Arlo won't stick out too much. The hosts might appreciate another kid to make it look like there are lots of kids (if attendance is a concern).
Plus I'm always game for free food and entertainment.
(Maybe you should take my opinion with a grain of salt. DD has never been to a birthday party).
colieann31, our vegetable steamer has a rice basket included. I like that it is basically 2-in-1. Less appliances in the cupboard and its tiered so I can do all my veggies and rice for dinner at the same time.

Do we have speech pathologists on here? I feel like we have at least one, maybe two. I'm trying to figure out if I need to get a referral for D and don't want to go through our EI system. ETA: I just have a couple of questions about what's considered typical at this age. I will not hold you to making treatment recommendations or anything.

Today my parents are moving out of the house they've been in for 18 years. One of their neighbors is a realtor and they came over today saying they are interested in buying the house and asked them to name a price. I hope this works out, no commission!

Haha, ours is the opposite, we have a rice cooker with a veggie steamer basket. I don't know the brand but ours came form Home Depot of all places, it works great but is probably too big for our needs. (8 cup I think).

Obvs not a speech pathologist, but I feel like there are enough of us going through some of this that we could have our own thread about it? DD is in therapy now and I'm curious how other kiddos are doing. We got our referral for an eval through our pedi and luckily the practice has an in-house therapist.

Wait, wait, wait...I thought these terrible, tantrum-filled twos were supposed to be the worst! We're in store for more of this crap at 3??!! After three they'll be fine until they are teenagers?!!?

Ummm...everyone I've talked to with older kids and my own experience has shown me that three is indeed the worst. There are exceptions! Maybe yours will be one of them! I'm honestly not bothered by DD at this age precisely because I know how bad things can get. I just kinda chuckle at her tantrums now
