Random but who has a rice cooker that they love? A has been wanting one but I know nothing about them. He wants an old one of his moms but we'd need a converter for it since it's from Korea. (I don't even know if she still has it at this point lol) His birthday is in September and I'd like to surprise him with one.
Not caught up yet, but we love love love our zojirushi. I can look up the model if you want.
Busy but good day at work. My boss caught me as I was leaving and apparently didn't do anything on our project. He was coming to me to get caught up. Hopefully I'll be able to bring him to to speed more than the 2 minute version I gave him as I was racing out the door
Add dining room floor and toy closet to places that have been peed on in the wines house today. The last one she rubbed both hands in and held them triumphantly up in the air in some bizarre toddler celebration of closet floor pee.

nachellebeck Sending good thoughts for your grandma. And also what everyone said, please don't beat yourself up, it really could have come from anywhere.
Why? Unless it is something really awful I'd think long and hard especially without something else lined up. You seem to have a pretty sweet set up.
+1
To start-I shouldn't be worried about whether or not she has the money to pay me. She said her dress code was casual as long as I looked nice so I have been wearing khaki Bermuda shorts for at least the last month because I can't find capris anywhere. She has seen me in them at work multiple times and today decides to tell me that I shouldn't be wearing them. And she told me that I needed to find a daycare that allows kids to go when they're sick so that I'm not having to stay at home with G. (I had to stay home because A couldn't take off with having a new job, his parents won't watch G, and my dad physically can't. I had no one else) And she's always telling me to do something one way and then later telling me I'm doing it wrong even though that's how she told me to do it a week ago. there's a bunch of other stuff too. But at the same time I feel like I'm stuck in that job because it's A's aunt.
Ok- finally caught up. Please- I needed to hear 3-year-olds are better not worse!!
My children were total messes at the splash pad today. All three of us ended up in tears. We had a really rough day Friday as well and I feel like the kids are teeing up to defeat me again. I'm super frustrated- I felt like we were kicking ass and taking names for awhile and now it has tumbled in to a pile of tears, and hair pulling, and thrown toys. We are a mess. subliminalrabbit- I apologize in advance for my kids for our meet up tomorrow!!
No apologies needed. 2 adults + 3 kids? We got this!

Thanks ladies.
On another note, I found out I didn't get that position i interviewed for last week. I'm irrationally annoyed at my boss for never mentioning it to me, all over again...

Honestly? That's most jobs (aside from the money thing & daycare thing).
Have her put in writing how she wants you to do things, that way you have something to fall back on.
I know it's hot as balls, but you might have to wear pants until you find work appropriate capris. That's what I had to do.
i honestly wish I had your set up. It sounds really fucking sweet.

colieann31 In regards to the actual inconsistencies with what she is telling you from week to week, I struggle with this at my job. I'm not sure of the type of environment that you're in; but I always write things down and/or get them in email form for this exact reason. Then you can reference what was written rather than trying to recall a verbal conversation.
Is there a written handbook that talks about the dress code? Maybe you can look at that and see where Bermuda shorts fall.
I rolled my eyes at the "sick kids" daycare. It may be helpful to have a babysitter for backup emergency situations if she feels that you're absent too frequently. However, if you have sick time, you can legally use it to take care of your kids...regardless of what she says.
YES! Although we haven't seen it. That'll be interesting. We've spoken to the tenants who had the faculty house last academic year and they wished they could stay, so we're hopeful it's not a total dump.
How far did you say you will be from NYC? If you ever plan to take a trip i to the city please give me a heads up!!
That goes for any bees in the area.... ciahanna im looking at you!
I know DH wants to see the Freedom Tower, so hopefully in a year or two! I haven't been to the city since high school.
numbersgirl08 Enjoy Jamaica! Sounds like a fabulous family vacation!

There is no handbook for me to reference to. It's me and her. And there are zero benefits. I don't get sick time or vacation time. Any time I have to take off is unpaid (which is fine) and I'm trying to get a "handbook" put together on how things are done so the next secretary hopefully doesn't have these problems. I haven't had this much stress from a job.
Re: magical sick kids daycare- the family housing at my university had one. I thought it was a great/terrible idea. It was only for kids too sick to go to regular daycare. The Sniffles Club or something.

colieann31 LOL at "allowing kids to go when they're sick." I'm new to this game, but where is this magical daycare?
There's a day care right next to the hospital I work at that actually has a "sniffles" room with a nurse that is the teacher for that room. Cause they know nurses can't just leave in the middle of the day very easily and they will keep sick kids until they can be picked up (all day if need be). I don't send M there cause they are expensive, but they do exist!
