Health/Fitness/Pre Baby Body Check In

There are many of us that have been given the "ok" to resume exercise. Even if you haven't, maybe you have been working on your diet or taking walks. 

I thought maybe we would resurrect this thread as a way to motivate each other to get back to our pre baby bodies.

So, here we go:

How was your fitness last week? If you starting this week, what are your fitness goals for the week? Any exercise ideas for others?

What is your diet like these days with a LO or several little ones? Are you eating differently?

Since having baby girl, I've been going on walks around the neighborhood. I was given the okay to exercise last week, so I started back at it yesterday: cardio and crunches.

This week's goals are to set a fitness plan out where I work out 4-5 days a week.

I've definitely cut out eating all the sweets and sodas that I enjoyed while pregnant- I miss those yummy treats! Other than that, I'm focusing on healthy, protein packed meals and snacks.

I'm not a person who works out a lot, but I feel like I incorporate a lot of activity into my daily routine. We're also cracking down on daily eating because I just feel blah a lot. I've been eating way too much sugar and carbs because it's quick and easy. LO and I are going to head to the grocery store shortly to grab a few more items and then I'm throwing together some paleo freezer crock pot meals. I figure paleo meals are a good start to healthy, protein-packed eating and that way when I grab a quick snack that is processed and has more sugar and carbs, it won't be so bad.

Since about 5 days pp, I've been walking every other day with LO. I started out going 1 mile, then gradually extended it. I was planning to kick it up to 2 miles every day this week but we're having a heat wave here. It was already in the 80's at 7:00, so I think LO and I will be getting our exercise at Target today.

My pp check-up is Friday and I can't wait to get cleared for more exercise (and sex...that counts as exercise right?). I'm really looking forward to tightening everything up...I have zero core strength right now.

I'm eating way less, partially b/c I'm so busy and partially b/c my appetite hasn't really come back. I've also subbed out most of my usual snack foods for fruits and stopped drinking sugary stuff to try to compensate for my inactivity. I'm hoping to keep those good habits up even after I tone up.

My doctor told me that I could exercise after 2 weeks, I definitely haven't been waiting until 6. Yesterday I started the moms into fitness postnatal slimdown 30 day challenge. I'm 4 1/2 weeks postpartum and so ready to lose the 30 pounds I have left to get to pre baby weight.

I just bought a tread climber. I'm excited to get started working out. DH wants to work out with me but we can't decide what to do. We did insanity in the past and it worked really well for me but was too much on DH knees.

Must. Lose. 20. Pounds.

We have been talking walks since LO was born. Last week I started the 30 day LBD challenge and the ab challenge because I can't seem to lose anymore weight. I also need to tone up in a big way. I was stirring the protein bites I made the other day and was shocked at the jiggle under my arms - gotta tone those triceps.
I think my big thing is the eating. I had to limit my carbs because of GD and even though I said I was going to try to stick to that diet I have been eating all the carbs all day long. No willpower at all lately!

dogmama22, care to share any paleo crockpot recipes that are good?

I haven't tried any yet, but this is the one I'm most excited for. Crock pot beef fajitas. My mouth is watering over the thought of tender beef...

Here's another fitness question for everyone - are your SOs struggling with fitness too?  If so what are you doing to encourage them?  I think DH gained more weight than I did this pregnancy and even though he is really active at work, he eats like crap and has huge portions.  I try to remind him about eating healthier, but don't want to nag.

My PP check up is Wednesday and I'm sure I'll be cleared for everything, but it's too hot here! By the time I get back from taking the girls to daycare it's in the mid to upper 80s and "feels like" low 90s with the heat index. I need to find something I can do inside.

I'm a runner, but usually go running in the morning before work. I go back to work 8/17, so until LO has a more predictable sleep schedule I probably won't be doing any running. Which is ok, I didn't start running until I was done nursing the girls, but I hope I can get active doing something before then. I just don't know when I will have time.

My DH has probably only been to the gym a couple of times in the last month. He also keeps saying "time to eat better" and is falling into the carb and fat trap too. It makes it so much easier to be bad! We are still really in survival mode. Hoping it gets better soon...

This is my biggest problem - when to go.  With LBB,  we were living in an apartment with a gym and DH was home for 6 weeks.  So when I started running again, DH was home to watch LBB and once he went back to work, I just went to the gym and hit the treadmill.  This time DH went back to work early, so I can't run during the day.  We're in a house, not an apartment, so there's no gym for me to run at night and I really don't want to run in our neighborhood (no sidewalks) at night.  I'm trying to figure out a weekend schedule, so I can run with my friends Saturday/Sunday morning, but the sleep schedule is messing me up since I don't want DH to have to sacrifice his weekend morning sleep so I can run.  (Right now BH eats around 5 and doesn't always go back down.  When he does, he's up at 6).  I don't have a half marathon until December, so I have a little bit of time to figure it out, and at least I can do lunchtime runs when I'm back at work.


How was your fitness last week? Pretty good.  I'm always running around after LBB, so I'm sure that helps.  We walked a lot during our strawberry/watermelon picking on Monday and Friday.  Tuesday BH and I did the farmer's market walk which got 2 miles in.  And Sunday LBB and I took the dog for a walk. 

If you starting this week, what are your fitness goals for the week? Any exercise ideas for others?  I have my appointment this afternoon, so I'm excited to get cleared and get back to strength training, which I can do at home.  I'm going back to Blogilates which works really well for toning me up and giving me muscles!  We're also going hiking on Friday and if I can figure out a way to swing it, running on Saturday. 

What is your diet like these days with a LO or several little ones? Are you eating differently? I'm the opposite of most of you.  I eat like crap right now, because I can!  I lose weight like a mofo when I'm breastfeeding.  (With LBB I gained 20lbs while pregnant, lost 40 after I had him and seem to be on the same track)  Although this time around I'm eating a lot less because I'm not nearly as hungry as I was the first time, and I'm so busy I often don't get around to snacking, even when I am hungry.

I still have a week and a half before my appointment, but I've been walking a lot more in the day, both to get my toddler out of the house and for the exercise. I'm still having a bit of incision pain and know that I'm a long ways from resuming my regular workouts, which is a bit frustrating as I kept up with them until 36 weeks. I was in better shape pregnant than I am now!

When I feel a bit more ready I'll be returning to my baby boot camp classes. They are amazing workouts and I can bring both kids in the stroller.

I need to work on my eating habits. I just can't seem to stop eating sweets. DH is in the same boat, and that definitely makes it worse. We both just cave to our cravings on a daily basis.

OMG my DH does nothing but eat cupcakes and pastries and ice cream while he's holding the baby & watching TV these days! We just moved in May and there's a bakery downtown that he loves, so on the rare occasion that he does go out to run, he runs to the bakery for a box of pastries lol. He's always been SUPER fit and active but his obsession with LO has eclipsed his desire to do anything that takes him away from her. He told me, "This is just our year to be chubby. We'll get in shape for next summer." And I was like, ummm speak for yourself! But he's that annoying person who goes to the gym for 2 weeks and looks amazing, no matter how much he gains. He's really looking forward to jogging with her in a stroller, but our pedi told us that it isn't safe to use a jogging stroller with baby prior to 6 months. Apparently it can damage their brain development with all bumping and jostling. So hopefully that will make exercising easier in the spring.

I've also been taking LO on walks around the park and/or Boardwalk. I could be outside walking with him all day if it wasn't so hot out. I'm still scared to take him alone in the car to any stores without DH.

Hope to start jogging soon. Definitely need to cut out the carbs and eat more salads and such. Have about 15 lbs to lose to reach my pre-pregnanxy weight and some extra to lose on top of that. It's tough making healthy food choices when you're sleep deprived though!

I did one 20 min Jillian Michael's workout and it was killer. I was sore for days. I've been walking 2miles almost every night for a few weeks.

Diet is good. I haven't had much of an appetite even though I'm EBF. Rarely eat dessert and mostly been craving protein.

I have 25lbs to lose to get back to my pre pregnancy weight. It feels daunting but I know once I start working out regularly or start running, I will drop lbs easier. My body responds best to cardio.

Other than walking (just with LO to the park in the evenings), I'm trying to jump on our elliptical for a little while during LO's naps. I put him in the stroller near me to watch him and he almost always wakes up 20 mins into my workout. Meh, I figure it's 20 minutes more than I woulda done otherwise.

Diet is a problem. I've been eating all the desserts. It's just so hot out (not that I'm really going out there) and ice cream! 20 minutes on the elliptical ain't really cuttin it when you finish a half gallon of I've cream every three days. I know, I know - imma work on it. I have about 15 lbs I need to lose to get back where I was and about 25 lbs to be where I wanna be. I have very little motivation for this and I'm super impressed with all of you who are actually eating healthy and signing up for races and things.

Update - I didn't get the "all clear" for exercise. I did for almost everything, but nothing jumping - no jumping jacks, burpees, etc. for the next two weeks. My bladder's still a little weak so she wants that to strengthen up before added stress on it. "You'll know when it's ready because if it's not you'll either start leaking or feel your bladder dropping/falling" (like that's not terrifying). So I'll focus on squats, abs, arms, etc.

I was trying to think of when I'd actually do a Jillian Michaels DVD or anything else and I can't figure out when I would. LO needs to be held all the time, pretty much.

I do need to take more walks and stop making lactation cookies.

I'll be 7+ weeks PP when I have my appt next week. I was running and lifting til week 6 of preg when it all came to a screeching halt (hellloooo pukies).
Right now I'm just pushing LO everywhere in the jogger (fully reclined, at a walk). Next week I hope to start with jogging and HIIT workouts (I use this blog hiitmamas.blogspot.com/?m=1 )

I have lost practically no weight, and I feel big and squishy.

DH is signed up for a crossfit competition in a few weeks, so he has some motivation to get his butt out of bed now. But he's been eating crap (drinking energy drinks) at work. Time to get clean!

My 6 week PP check up is later this week. However I've been doing lots of walking for weeks (Walmart, Target, etc.), go up and down the stairs in our house probably close to 50 times a day, and I do weight lifting daily (aka DD & LO). I don't foresee myself doing much more in the short term even after being officially cleared. But I've been eating a lot healthier during this maternity leave than I did during the first go round so that's good. I've said before my biggest problem isn't weight per say, rather it's the need for my hips to realign.  Until then I'm not going to be able to fit back into even my "transitional" clothes.

I did the Tracy Anderson Pregnancy Project DVD my entire pregnancy, and I found it to be a great arm and leg work out. So, I ordered her Post Partum DVD yesterday as a way to ease back in to exercising. I'll let y'all know if it's as good as her pregnancy one.

I've got my appointment on Friday- I'll only be 5 weeks PP, but I am feeling like they'll still clear me for everything- I am feeling *almost* back to normal.

I've lost all of my pregnancy weight plus about 5 lbs, but I am attributing that to BFing and eating well. As far as how I feel though- totally different ball game. My body just feels so fatigued all the time (probably from lack of sleep) and while I am anxious to get moving again, I don't know how much I'll actually be able to do. I'd like to get outside more, but it has been way too hot here in AL to go out with a newborn. Poor kid starts sweating the second we put him in his car seat practically. We are headed for the North east next week, and my goals involve nightly walks around my parent's neighborhood and swimming/kayaking on the lake a few times as long as I am cleared to do so. When we get back here, I am hoping to walk more with LO if it cools down a bit, and start getting some yoga/time on the elliptical back into my routine. I just want to tone up- my clothes all mostly fit (except my butt is definitely bigger) I just don't want to feel so floppy anymore.

Going for a walk soon while SO gets to run. Pretty jealous. I miss working out. I have my apt on the 3rd or August. I'm feeling great and was going to run but SO won't let me. (Probably for the best). I've lost all my weight already and some extra. I have to be extremely picky about what I eat because J is super sensitive to my food. So it pretty much fruit, some veggies, oatmeal, those natures valley bars(that is mostly crumbs), and Turkey sandwiches. Lots of fruit smoothies :-)
