We had to have O's done when she was 8 days old. She's 6weeks 2 days now. They had me hold her as well, which was awful! There was more blood than I anticipated, because everyone told me there would just be a drop or two... and boy did she scream. I felt sooo helpless . They didn't use any cautery though, just held pressure with gauze and then had me nurse. There was blood all over my breast and her mouth and she looked like a little vampire baby after she nursed. We weren't given any post procedure exercises to do, but I remember some of the other ladies said they did. O's healed pretty quickly. We didn't have any mucousy discharge or anything. Good luck to you and your LO!!
We had J's done when he was a week old. H held him, which was probably better because I cried just listening to him. The ENT put some lidocaine on the area. It bled a bit, but they didn't cauterize or anything. They just had me nurse for a couple of minutes after. The only follow-up directions we got were to rub the area for a couple of seconds a few times a day for the next two days (with a finger or paci). I never saw any discharge or anything odd after. It took him a little while to figure out nursing again though. It was like he didn't know what to do with his tongue once it was free. I hope the dr can clarify for you!

I don't have anything to add, but I hope your LO heals quickly! We are getting H's corrected on Friday. I am terrified! They apparently use a laser, which sounds quite scary to me. She has a posterior tie so it may involve lots of blood. I am thinking about asking H to come with me since I am terrible with blood and am really nervous about it already.
My LO got a tongue tie clipped too, but the tongue tie clip was not nearly as bloody and messy as the lip tie clip, but overall recovery was NBD for us. He was only about a week old at the time. Sorry your experience was so traumatic.

I would have your H go too. I went by myself and I wish I hadn't. GL!!

Had the tongue and lip tie fixed today. H came with me and stayed with her, I waited outside, I was already emotional and didn't want to cry or freak out if there was blood. No blood and she nursed tight after and it felt much better. The Dr. Said it was the most difficult one he has ever done, she clamped her mouth shut after he did the lip tie and they had to pry her mouth open to get to her tongue But she is sleeping now and seems totally fine.

I'm making an appt for a consultation tomorrow she definitely has a lip tie but I'm not sure about a tongue tie. She has reflux and really bad gas pains and if this is contributing to her misery I want to get it addressed. At her 2 week well check her ped grazed over it saying "we'll talk about that (pointing to her lip tie) down the road." But it's causing her discomfort NOW so I'm going straight to a pediatric dentist.

Had DD's lip tie clipped this morning- did anyone notice immediate improvement in eating? Or a reduction in eating on the day their LO's had their ties clipped?

I did for both. Her latch got a little better but has seemed to slip in the past few days. She also slept a bunch the first couple days (I gave her Tylenol, not sure if that's related) and I got plugged ducts on both sides.
My DD had a lip tie and a tongue tie. The ENT did it while she was still in her car seat. They used a laser so there was no blood. She was 2 weeks 1 day when we had it done. She did not need any baby Tylenol or anything like that.
mrsmonogrammed - I didn't have instant relief as my nipples were pretty destroyed but she was easier to latch easier, and once my body healed it does not hurt anymore.

Thanks for the heads up! I've been pumping after nursing to make sure she's really emptying the breast. Plugged ducts are no fun and I'm glad to avoid them during this.

I definitely noticed it's hurting less (not even the initi latch hurts much anymore) but I noticed she's taking less time to eat -used to be 40min (20each side) but but now she's going about 15 each side with the 2nd side sometimes only being 10 min
