So I've had to send Cece with frozen BM a few times since going back to work because I am not pumping enough on the weekends to give her all fresh. Well Monday she had two frozen bottles and she was miserable all day. The BM smelled fine (maybe this is weird but I always taste it too before sending it) and it tasted fine too. I always do this with frozen because it makes me nervous for some reason. Now she also had a bottle of fresh stuff but I'm nervous that maybe something was still "wrong" with the frozen stuff or maybe she can't handle it after it's been frozen and thawed? Is that possible? Or maybe it was just something with the batch I thawed for Monday? I'm sure there could be a variety of reasons and maybe her being miserable had nothing to do with the milk but I was just wondering if any of you experienced anything like this. I've given her frozen before and honestly can't remember her acting any differently.
I would guess just a cranky day Sounds like you checked to make sure everything about it was fine.
Could she have eaten too much or still have wanted more maybe?
I always send extra and my sister said that when she was good and full after eating so I don't think she was still hungry. I'm hoping she was just cranky and it's not a frozen BM issue because I would hate to not be able to use any of it. Hopefully it was just a coincidence. Thanks for responding
Everytime Henry had frozen BM he wpur have a crazy huge poop. No idea whemy the frozen did it, but like clock work ot happened. So maybe she just doesn't tolerate it as well? Maybe she needs to poop? No idea.
It could be a liapse(sp) issue. It happens with some people and when the milk is frozen. I don't think there's anything you can do, but I could be wrong. OR, did you notice any days while you were on leave where she was extra fussy? Maybe you ate something that bothered her and it happened to be on a day that you also pumped.
It could just be a coincidence that it was an issue. Do you remember if both bottles were from the same day? I used to always star or notated on some bags if I thought there might be an issue, especially if it was a day that I froze multiple bags. EX. when I brought home my pumped milk on Friday and forgot to put in the fridge or freeze and it sat out for a little over the 6 hours, like maybe 8. It was still cool since we keep our house rather warm so I notated on the bag since there were several bags that I froze, that way if it seemed to bother her I could stop using the remaining.

Both frozen bottles were from different days in May as I wasn't able to pump too much each day. That gives me hope that if it was just a bad day with that milk then the others will be ok. I do know that she was fussier mid/May (when this milk is from) so maybe I just skip the rest of my May stuff (not like there was much anyways) and try June's stuff instead and see if there are any problems.
Edit: I didn't even think to mark the bags on those fussier than normal days...ugh...fail on my part

If it was a lipase issue the milk should be soapy smelling and tasting. You can scald the milk prior to freezing but honestly doesn't sound like a lipase issue. Kellymom has a whole lipase section. I bet its coincidence or maybe freeze the milk right away? If it tastes fine to you it should be fine. Try some June milk, I hate for you to waste May.

I know me too...especially since I went out to our freezer again to check what was in there and realized I missed a whole bin of May stuff so I have more than I thought. Since I'll have to use more than usual next week because I'm out of town for two days I'm going to try May again first and then June and see how it goes. If she reacts the same way with the May stuff and not with June or even with both then I will be super sad

I know the milk composition changes as the baby grows older... I think it gets fattier? Maybe the May milk isn't like what she's used to? Maybe you could mix frozen and fresh together and see if she is happier on that?
