Trying to find ethnic names that flow

Hey ladies! I'm popping over from the June board to get some name opinions.  I'm Indian, and my husband is white.  We are trying to find some names of both cultures that flow. Plus, the Indian names sound so odd to MH that I was hoping for some ideas that sound ok to a non indian ear. 

We are having a boy! We like names that are traditional, but not over used and/or modern.  Our favorite so far is Theodore Raja (he would be called theo). 

My husband loves the name Theodore.  While I'm still warming to it.  I like the Theo nickname but really don't like Theodore or even ted.  MH is ok (kinda) with raja but he thinks it flows better with Theodore but not theo.  All other Indian boy names I've thrown out, he's vetoed right away.  He thinks Indian girl names are better haha

Any ideas? Or thoughts about Theodore Raja?  Thanks for any input!

I love Theodore Raja! I would just correct anyone who tries to call him Ted. If you don't like the name, it should be out. I'm not familiar with Indian names, so I'll just suggest names to go with Raja as a mn. Are there any names from your husband's culture that you do like?

I think Theodore Raja is amazing. Absolutely awesome. I'm not an expert in Indian names by any stretch of the imagination, but I like these ones:

I think Rohan is a great suggestion. I'll throw out Ajay as well and might come back later to edit with more ideas.

Thanks ladies! dreadpiratebuttercup, I like lots of names but weirdly can't see them for my kid. It's weird, I know. For example, I love the name jack but just can't see it for my son. Maybe I just need time to let the names grow on me

I love the suggestion of Vikram! It's a great name, Rohan and Kiran also feel like they have a similar vibe to Theodore.

I love Theodore Raja nn Theo. I feel the same way in the dislike for Ted, but Theo is, awesome enough I'd totally use it if I could get H on board.

Are you looking for an Indian first name (because...Theodore....) or something instead of Raja?

My close friends are Anil, Dhruv, Rajit, Samir, Shaneesh, and Zubin.

My daughter has an Indian name, since she was born there. #2 will be as well, and so we're also evaluating Indian names that would work... our #1 boy's name is Rohan. If it's a boy, it will be Rohan, end of discussion. I am too in love with than name for it to be anything else. We're going with Indian FNs, Western MNs.

I know some PPs suggested Kiran, but I know too many female Kirans (there are Desai and Bedi, and I've actually met both of them) for it to be a masculine name to me. I think it's supposed to be gender-neutral, though.

well, damn, it seems the name Theo/Theodore is getting a lot of love! Honestly, It doesn't matter to me if the Indian name is the baby's FN or MN.  I'll just be happy to have some of my culture in there I like raja because it's my dad's pet name in his family and it's short and easy to say. Just wanted some feedback on the mixed name in general and if it sounded weird. Thanks ladies!


and, I completely agree estrellas, I only know girls with the name kiran.  So to me, it'll always be a slightly more feminine name.

It's two syllables...kind of sounds like Viper.  And I don't think it's a silly question at all, especially since my husbands last name has German roots. This kids name is going to be all over the place
