So last Friday my then 5 week old started vomiting after every feeding. Not spitting up but grown up puking with the gagging and preburps and the whole 9. I let it go until the next morning as I suspect she may have a dairy intolerance and I had slipped up with some cheese tortellini the day before. It was still happening so we went to her pediatrician's office. They really couldn't tell me anything so they said I should take her to the ER. Super fun. We went, she has blood taken, saline given, and an ultrasound done on her belly. Nothing. All signs point to a healthy baby with some reflux, for which she takes zantac. The ER Dr. Told me she thinks it's gastroenteritis and to bring her back if she catches a fever or can't hold anything down. Well, for the past week she's had good days and bad days with the puking but it still happens. A week later. The only thing I could think of was that it started a few days after we started her on zantac. I googled it and some parents noticed similar symptoms in their LOs. Have any of you ladies noticed this?
Oh you poor momma and baby girl! I'm sure watching your baby "grown up" puke is not fun at all. O has been on Zantac for 2 weeks now. She's still spitting up, but no puking here. I hope you get some answers soon. GL to you!!

Thank you! Yeah it's been rough. When I learned that zantac is only supposed to take away the burn associated with reflux and not the actual reflux I decided to take her off the zantac for now since I noticed no difference and she throws it up anyway, just to see if she gets better. I'm grasping at straws here. She's not lethargic or anything but she does this little wimper right before it comes back up and it makes me so sad.
seannemairi I would call the ped and see if they would switch her to prevacid solutabs ( if its what the MD thinks is causing the throwing up) fyi though it's expensive and some insurance requires a Prior authorization from the dr before they will cover it
The ped had no idea what it was and neither she nor the ER ped mentioned any correlation with reflux and the big girl throw up. If it gets worse she's going in for a sick visit and I will talk to them about that. The ER dr just said probably gastroenteritis or another stomach virus but it's been a week, I feel like stomach bugs don't get better then worse and see saw like that over the course of a week. Then again, I'm not a dr. Haha
We've been dealing with pretty much the exact same thing. We have giant vomiting sessions that seem like he's throwing up everything he ate, with gagging and coughing. It started at 2 1/2 weeks, he was put on Zantac at 3 1/2 weeks and he's now 6 weeks. It's been super up and down so I finally took him off the Zantac a few days ago because he seemed to be doing fine when I accidentally skipped a dose. It's been better since we stopped, but still not gone. I really don't know what to do either. We are working with an LC on overactive letdown/ oversupply which she believes is a big part of the problem. Hopefully once that's more regulated he'll do better. Sorry I can't help more, just commiserate.

YES. It's like we have the same baby haha. I've withheld 2 doses so far and she stopped vomiting, just her normal spit up. I was trying to do a little research on forceful letdown and over supply because it feels like an electric shock when I let down and I feel like she chokes while eating a lot. Best of luck to you!
seannemairi we've been working with an LC on it. Has your baby been evaluated for a posterior tongue tie? It often mimics reflux. Z doesn't have one, but sometimes acts like he does so he sucks a lot of air. We were also told to do laid back nursing, express some milk into a rag before latching baby and I was put on an anti-inflammatory diet since that can trigger higher supply. It's basically paleo, but I can still eat some carbs and dairy, just less than usual.

They just put DS on Zantac today but he had projectile vomiting several feedings per day in addition to the massive spit up. I really hope it won't make it worse or atleast eases the discomfort and crying.

She hasnt, but she does have level 4 lop tie. She sticks her tongue pretty far out of her mouth so i never considered tongue tie. She wimpers before she spits up or burps so I figured it was just her esophagus burning. I'll definitely be talking to her ped more in depth on her issues. It kills me to see her in pain.

It is awful to see them so upset. I heard 95% of babies with a lip tie also have a tongue tie, so it's worth looking into. The lip tie is probably playing a big role though because it stops them from making a good seal at the breast. Anyway, I hope you get it worked out quickly, this is no fun at all
