TL;DR: DH and I got lost on a 7 mile hike - ended up walking around 11 miles and a good Samaritan gave us a ride back since we were soooo incredibly lost in the dark!
Long Story:
My DH and I came up to a cabin for the weekend. We decided to go on a 7 mile hike at the nearby state park.
The hike started out on the wrong foot when we made the wrong loop to begin with. We should have stopped then, but we decided to keep going. The hike had some really hard inclines up the mountain and declines down to the creeks. This is not a hike a pregnant woman should do! My legs were getting tired and I kept slipping. I Was mad at myself for putting myself and baby in a semi dangerous situation.
we knew it was getting dark soon so we had to pick up the pace. We had already been walking for 4 hours. We found a road that we thought led to the main road but ended up miles away from where we thought we were!
We walked on this road for an hour (it's now dark outside) and finally came to a cabin that had lights on. Thank God for good people on this world that gave a ride to two lost hikers!
I'm glad everything turned out ok. You're such a trooper to have gone on a hike! I gave up hiking with DH. He likes to venture of trails so I just know we're bound to get lost or go the extra mile or two with him.

Seriously scary to get lost like that!! There's some pretty good GPS you can download on your phone (don't need wifi to use them), and I insist DH to map out the area on his awesome maps before he ever hikes in a non-popular area. Short, popular hikes during popular times of the year are usually not a problem because there are so many people that it's hard to get lost! My husband uses Gaia GPS. It is a little intense but my DH does long backpacking trips in the middle of nowhere, places that if he gets lost dying is a serious and likely possibility. Maybe look into something like this if you do a non-popular hike again. We take hiking very serious in our family!! Way too many people get hurt or lost or die from things that you think would be no big deal.

Good to know! We definitely weren't prepared for what we took on!
