2. Appointment Updates (recent appts? ones coming up?) I have an ultrasound tomorrow to check Ailsa's growth and just a general check up.
3. General symptoms/rants/concerns/exciting things? It's viability day! YAY! I'm going to celebrate, but I haven't decided how yet.
QOTW: What's the best vacation you've been on recently? Last summer I went to Italy with a bunch of my friends from high school. I hadn't seen some of them in a couple of years, and for some it was the first time they'd been away without kiddies in years. We stayed in a villa really near the beach, and it was just generally a pretty amazing holiday.

Good morning!

Happy Viability Day ionaerebor!!!



1. I'm six weeks and one day with my second that feels like a first because my last successful pregnancy was over a decade ago. I think we might be team green but we haven't decided.

2. I have an ultrasound Wednesday. After my low beta start, I'm really looking forward to this to give C and I some comfort. I also have a midwife appointment in two weeks that I'm really excited about! (See next question)

3. C and I want a midwife in hospital birth but our local hospital does not allow it (well, they do but there are no midwives with privileges there), we were able to secure a spot with an out of town midwife group that delivers at a hospital about 15 minutes away from me (but still out of town); we are elated!!! This is a big deal because they have a policy that limits the number of clients from outside the city.

I'm tired, I want a nap every day and I'm my super sonic sense of smell is leading me to nausea and some major food aversions - eggs being the number one culprit.

QOTW: I went to Cuba last year with friends: the beach was amazing but the friends we went with made it special.

2. Appointment Updates (recent appts? ones coming up?)

I just had an OB appointment this morning!
Dosey looked good - still measuring ahead at about 16wks. My OB asked if we wanted an u/s, and I said "yes, please!" So we got to see baby wiggling around as well as hear the heartbeat.

Next Monday I have a blood draw (second part of the Sequential Screen - will rule out Spina Bifida). Then our anatomy scan is on September 4th and next OB appointment is September 10th.

3. General symptoms/rants/concerns/exciting things?

I've felt pretty swollen the last week or so, and my belly and breasts feel mega heavy. I just feel like I am lugging around sandbags or something. I told my OB about it, and she agrees that I am retaining fluid (mainly around my joints and in my abdomen). My BP was good though, and no protein in my urine, so no other reason to be super alarmed at this point. She just wants to monitor it at this point. It did make my weight take a significant jump from last time, but my OB said she really thinks it is from the fluid. I tend to agree. I am hoping it resolves before our next appointment.

Otherwise, I have had some spotty nausea (for some reason my usual greek yogurt and banana for breakfast today did NOT sit well), and my heartburn has become more frequent and stronger. My OB also wants me to call her if the heartburn becomes a daily occurrence and I start vomiting from it. Unfortunately, Tums make me vomit, so they only make it worse. Zantac doesn't seem to do anything for me. I might end up back on prescription Nexium this pregnancy, but we will take it one day at a time and see if it gets bad enough to warrant that.

Sleep still alludes me, but that is nothing new. I did also tell my OB about my RLP. She said it is pretty normal for a second pregnancy, especially one that follows the first pregnancy fairly closely. She wasn't worried.

That's about it. Definitely feeling pregnant these days, that's for sure, but nothing unmanageable in terms of symptoms/complaints.

I am anxiously awaiting feeling some movement! So far nada, but I hear it can happen anytime now for a second pregnancy. Hoping soon!


QOTW: What's the best vacation you've been on recently?

Well, our only recent vacation was Myrtle Beach in June. That was our fist vacation in about 2.5 years. I think our honeymoon 3 years ago is still the best though! We flew to Rome, spent a couple of days there, took a week-long cruise that stopped in two other Italian cities, then two ports in France, then Barcelona, and finally back to Rome. After the cruise we spent 2 more days in Rome before flying home. It was a fantastic vacation!

1. 36w4d, Team green and first time carrying. My wife carried our son who is 17months.

2. Had my 36 week apt last week. I did the GBS test and will get the results on Thursday at my 37 week apt. I'm not worried about it now that I know the hospital will let you come in for the IV meds and then discharge you back to home so you can labor at home if your want. My GD is being completely controlled by diet and my numbers are normal so at most I have 3 weeks of finger sticks!!!

3. I'm hitting the exhaustion wall. On Saturday we went to a bbq and my wife and I were chasing R around th whole time. A new mom looked at me and said, "How are you doing this at 36 weeks? I was sitting on my butt at this point." Everyday I wonder the same thing. I would love a good nap and rest after work.

QOTW: Last BEST vacation has to be Hawaii in 2012. I know that sounds like a long, long time ago, but that was our last couples trip without R. We ate and drank and played ourselves silly. Since having R we have gone on many "vacations", but I wouldn't call them vacations since there is nothing restful about traveling with a kid

Not nosey at all karlamo....he already knows. He's very excited and totally team blue (but okay with a sister too!).

We told him when we were trying because it's very hard to hide doctors appointment, Band-Aids from bloodwork, and doing the injections from a 13 year old over almost a year. We're very close and he could tell that something was up and he's old enough to Google what Gonal is! I'm pretty sure he thought I had cancer or something so it was better that we told him.

This is not popular, kind, or gracious, but sometimes I go and peruse the Aug. '15 board and think to myself how jealous I am of all of these women who seem to have "Permission" to relax on the couch and watch Netflix all day. Now, I know that's not really my personality anyway, but even a single day to relax and feel like it was okay to rest would be wonderful. Rather than what I do now which is constantly chase a 2 year old, and then frantically do meal prep/laundry/cleaning/etc. when he naps!

Or, yesterday, when I needed to get G out of the house in the afternoon so I took him to an Open Streets event and ended up wearing him on my back for most of it. Talk about a painful decision, I'm seriously wondering if my hips are going to recover in the next 2-3 weeks!

37W 3D, Second Pregnancy, Second Baby Boy (G will be 2 1/2 in September).


2. Appointment Updates (recent appts? ones coming up?)
My Midwife was booked up last week so I didn't have my typical Friday appointment at exactly 37W. Instead I go today. No big deal. I did have my NST and BPP last week and all looked fine. Baby is still moving around a ton. I'm assuming since I didn't get a call last week, that my GBS came back negative. I'll confirm today, but that would make me happy. I'm already pissed that I'll have to get a heplock (they just drive me completely crazy, I find it really uncomfortable), so hopefully I won't have to put anything into it!!

We had our 2nd Prenatal visit with our Doula on Saturday. We went over some comfort measures and more about everyone's roles during the labor. I really think we made a good choice, and I'm so excited to get the show on the road (equal parts terrified as well).


3. General symptoms/rants/concerns/exciting things?
Sleep has actually been better for me the last few days. Perhaps my body has just given in? Who knows. Some of baby's movement (particularly in the evenings) has gotten pretty intense. He's sitting really low, which is great, but makes for quite a bit of discomfort. Every night when I put G to bed, he lays across my belly (since I have no lap) while I read to him. He's squirmy and I feel like the 2 boys are already wrestling, just with my abdomen in between them. It's not super pleasurable for me.

G was born at 41W 3D. I don't know why, but I'm really feeling like this kiddo is going to come sooner. Like, I'm just trying to hang on until my Sister gets here next week. I have nothing to go on in saying that, it's just the feeling I get. As long as I can get prepared at work, I'm all for it. He also feels a lot bigger than G did. I'll see what the Midwife has to say about that today.

QOTW: What's the best vacation you've been on recently?
Vacation? What the hell is that? In all honesty, S and I haven't been on a vacation that wasn't focused on visiting family or doing something rugby-related since about 2008. That trip was fantastic; we went to London and Paris and had a great time, though it was completely exhausting. In 2012 we did go on a cruise which was a riot, but it was with a bunch of old rugby teammates. I certainly don't mind group vacations, but some day in the next 5 years or so I would really love to have some 1:1 time with my wife!

I feel like this whole pregnancy I have been wrestling with guilt. I felt guilty when I had bad m/s and was struggling to take care of R and now I feel bad that I physically can't keep up with him as he is running laps around me.

I feel bad for Moka that I haven't been able to take the time to get rest when I needed to. As soon as R is down for a nap, I'm racing against the clock to do the housework or make phone calls before he wakes up. Sometimes I get lucky and can take a nap after my chores are done. I think being a SAHM would be a lot easier if I had a housekeeper and personal assistant

Ditto, karlamo!  We have so many similarities, it's been great to feel like there's someone out there that totally gets where I'm at right now. 

And yes, the guilt is amazing.  Lately, I've felt really guilty that I haven't done any of the things that I planned on to document this pregnancy.  I was seriously bad about that stuff with G, and I've been EVEN WORSE with this one.  How was that even possible?  I have almost ZERO bump shots, and no videos of my belly.  Who knows, maybe these boys won't care at all, but right now I just feel terribly neglectful.  And in terms of my guilt with G, well let's just say that I'm really hoping my patience returns in full force once I'm no longer pregnant.  Poor kiddo.

So we agree that winning the lottery is the only option to true happiness here?  Awesome.

I had my ultrasound today and the heartbeat was 110 which my RE says is good and that anywhere from 90-160 is great. Also and updated due date of March 28.

Seriously though, I know that it's the best reason to be puking ever and I really shouldn't complain but I have been throwing up multiple times a day. I saw the RE today and she told me to track and we'll re-evaluate next week. Any tips?

wittyandwaiting, what awesome news on the hb! As for puking, I'm no help. I refused to take anything the first trimester and then at 15 weeks when I was ready to take all the meds, my MW wasn't comfortable giving any RX meds like Zofran. My m/s and puking stopped at 18 weeks or so.

Ask your OB but you could try b6 and unison. It's OTC here in the states. Many people have good luck with it. I couldn't take it cause it makes you sleepy and that doesn't mesh well with taking care of a toddler.

Thanks karlamo, somebody else mentioned Zofran to me, it's not approved for use in pregnancy here in Canada. I'm going to try things like ginger and sour candies and see what happens.

wittyandwaiting - Yay!!!!

RE: m/s... I never had what I would characterize as severe m/s (especially not with this pregnancy, my last one was marginally worse), but sour things seemed to help me with nausea -- the green jolly ranchers were a favorite! Also eating lots of small meals throughout the day. Eating too much or allowing myself to get hungry seemed to set me off. So grazing on crackers, almonds, granola bars (all.the.carbs.) throughout the day seemed to help me somewhat. Some peeps swear by ginger ale, but anything carbonated made me feel worse and then gave me heartburn. I mainly just drink water and skim milk in the first tri. That's all I could really handle consistently. I never tried the Sea Bands, but I heard some people found them to be really helpful. Good luck! And YAY baby!!!

Congratulations on the ultrasound.

The Canadian equivalent of unisom and b12 is diclectin. It's prescription but super common to take in pregnancy. I'm surprised your RE didn't already offer you a prescription. It's pretty expensive if you don't have a drug plan. But I definitely took it. 2 pills before bed, one in morning, and one midday is common dosage. It has a drowsiness component which is great for sleeping at night but can add to the overall fatigue during the day. But even if you take it only at night, it should help some.

We've been traveling and where we are staying has really inconsistent phone service. It's beautiful but pretty rural.

1. 16 weeks 4 days along with our first.

2. We have an appointment next Monday. Looking forward to checking in and seeing how things are going. We got the results back from my genetic testing and everything was normal. They checked for 253 genetic conditions.

3. No new symptoms. My boobs feel big and I keep talking about how they feel different. This afternoon I felt a slight twinge/tightening of my abdomen which was different. But it only happened twice. I think it was how I was sitting.


When did you first feel movement and what did it feel like?

That's the reason my MW didn't want to give me it unless nothing else worked. I'm a martyr so I suffered till the bitter end of it. It sucks! I hope yours doesn't last long. Did you have it bad with your son?

I had it but I don't remember it being this bad, maybe it's because I was younger and more resilient.

cetcar, I've had anterior placentas with both pregnancies and that can delay your ability to feel LO move. With G I felt him for sure at 22 weeks. With this guy, it was about 21 weeks. Both times I went into my anatomy scan and could clearly SEE him moving around but couldn't feel a thing. Very frustrating!

wittyandwaiting, my friend is an L&D nurse and says that her teen moms handle labor way better than "older" moms. Like they barely scream during labor and bounce back like no other. Her theory is our bodies haven't evolved to catch up with our social times. Meaning we're made to have kids at a young age compared to us old ladies in our 30's:)

cetcar - with my first pregnancy, I didn't feel definitive movement until 19-20 weeks. Now, in my second pregnancy, I just started feeling movement yesterday at 15.5 weeks (just the initial flutters and squirmy feeling). There are A LOT of factors, from my understanding, that inform how soon or late you feel movement, and like everything else everyone is different. So there is a wide range of what is typical. I have heard for a first pregnancy that 15-22 weeks is the typical range for first feeling movement, but most people do not feel it until later in that range for a first pregnancy.

TL;DR- early BFP on our first IUI; feel majorly blessed about it but having some guilt and also not sure the best way to announce it here. EDD 4/21/16

Soooo, I think I might be able to go here now. I'm at 9DPO and 10dpiui. I tested the trigger out of my system a few days ago. I was so nervous this morning because there were SO many things wrong with this cycle, so I made my partner look first. He was just like, "yep, I see the line" and I'm all like "Are you kidding me?!?" He was so used to seeing the 2 lines when I was testing out the trigger that he didn't understand what it meant.
I'm feeling major guilty because last night I was at the wedding dance for my partner's sister's wedding. His sister HATES me because she's majorly catholic and thinks I'm causing her "sister" to live a sinful lifestyle. It was also the first time since he was "out" to all his extended family with his male name/ pronouns so the whole time they were stumbling over words. And the whole time his sister was insisting on obnoxiously continuing to use female name/pronouns. Anyway, all the stress led me to make a shitty choice and get pretty drunk despite my better judgment. I was just convinced there was no way. I feel so terrible now!

Anyway, my EDD is 4/21/16, if this sticks. I'm going to keep POAS every day until 15dpiui and then will have my 2 day beta and progesterone levels checked.
I'm not sure I really want to make a thread on the main board...I honestly feel like a pretty big asshole getting KU on my first IUI, and I don't want to cause any hurts to people who have been trying much longer, but I also don't want to be a jerk by just mysteriously disappearing off the ttc thread. We've been saving up for TTC for over 6 months and so I have a slight taste of how it feels to spend a long time wanting a baby and then every time someone around you gets KU it feels like a punch in the gut.

honigbiene, a couple of things ... first of all, CONGRATS!!

Second, that little thing will live off of its yolk sac for a quite a while yet. Nothing you imbibed this weekend is going to have any kind of negative effect, so STOP WORRYING and just enjoy these first few days.

Lastly, do what you're comfortable with here on the board, but just know that no one ever begrudges those on here are that are able to conceive. And, frankly, with IF it's a topic that's always on that person's mind. You're BFP isn't going to remind anyone that they're struggling TTC, they already know that. So, really, sensitivity is always appreciated and certainly I wouldn't post a BFP in the TTC thread, but I'm sure that people will be curious about the outcome if they know where you are in your cycle, and will want to know and congratulate you.

I say the above from experience. While we struggled TTC our first, we got incredibly lucky with our second. And I spent a whole lot of time feeling sheepish about it, for no good reason. Enjoy this success and I look forward to seeing you in the pregnancy, and eventually the parenting threads!
