I have "Lock Jaw" and it is fucking killing me right now. Any other people suffer from TMJ and have so remedies that don't involve super painkillers.
honeylemon I just want to send you a creepy Internet hug, I've suffered through sciatica pre pregnancy on and off for years and I don't know if you have tried it, but acupuncture really helped the last time.
Beef jerky and bubble gum helped me with TMJ when I had it when I was 15. My dentist explained it as a charlie horse in the jaw and you just have to work it out.
Really!!!!! I just dosed up on anti-inflams last time and that worked. Ok.... Gum and jerky, let's work this bad boy out of my face. Thanks heaps for that Every chew I'm saying owe.... Going to be a long day at work
All of you snow people today, I'm so jealous, high of 60 predicted for today and 67 for wed!! I want snow!
Ugh- between my pregnancy and DHs heart condition, I am NOT looking forward to having to dig ourselves out. I do admit the snow is pretty and all- it's just a pain in my ass!

I too have a history of TMJ pain. It's apparently a complex issue that is highly related to stress, nerve pain and jaw arthritis. But yes- it leads to muscle cramps in the jaw and neck. I have some good stretches that involve opening your mouth and pushing forward your lower jaw. A good neck/shoulder massage can also help. Also I got one of those nighttime mouth guards to help prevent grinding your teeth; not the crappy kind you buy in the store but the kind your dentist fits to you. All of that helps me. Only the mouth guard was a major investment because in the U.S. my dental insurance won't pay for it. IMO chewing things like beef jerky etc makes the pain worse but if it is helpful for others might be worth a shot!

This is good advice if you have a specific type of TMJ pain, but TMJ disorders can be caused by several things, and the treatment is different for each of them. Your best bet is not to google this or get recommendations from others, but to find an orthodontist who specializes in TMJ disorders and make an appointment. Grinding and stress-related issues are the most common problem, but TMJ disorders can also be caused by cartilage in the joint that shouldn't be there (in which case you have to have surgery), or, as was in my case, a jaw that's just completely misaligned. In my case, which was serious enough that I couldn't open my mouth more than half an inch without a painful, loud crack, I had to wear a splint on my jaw 24/7 for 4 1/2 months to re-train my jaw muscles to align properly, then I had to have two teeth extracted and braces put on to fix the bite that had been completely messed up now that my jaw was where it needed to be.
Now I have almost no TMJ pain or popping, but I need to wear retainers every night forever, and I need to specifically NOT chew gum or eat jerky. In fact, my orthodontist told me that those things are really not good for anyone's jaw. He also had a very serious and creepy conversation with me about not eating apples which I'm pretty sure was really about not giving blowjobs.
ETA staccajaye I just noticed the part about you chewing gum all day. Please don't do this unless you are sure you have a muscle problem and not a joint problem!!!!
I have a feeling that I'm going to be the only one posting on "what have up brought lately" in April because I haven't brought anything. Everythin I have other have brought for me. Sigh.. I need to get it together.

@ajzmommy, I'll be right there with you, don't you worry.
All you East Coasters please be safe with this crazy snow!!!
My random is to applaud all you who are super sick right now AND taking care of your kids. I can barely take care of myself right now, let alone a LO. You're my heroes!

We had one day of snow and none on Christmas I'll take another random day then it can go back to 60's
We didn't have any snow on Christmas either which is why I'm pissed at the snow and don't want to see it until next Christmas!!
Ugh seriously. You took the words right out of my mouth. Once january comes, I usually reach my limit with the cold. I'd kill for some 69 degree sunny weather. Instead I get 20-30 inches of snow.
My random of the day: I got into a dead-serious argument with H last night. Every winter from the dry air, I get bloody noses every once in a great while. Well, last night when I blew my nose there was the SLIGHTEST tinge of pink snot. H freaked out and was trying to convince me to call my doctor. dead serious. I laughed at him... Pretty hard too, thinking he was kidding. He was not kidding. He got all offended that I was laughing at him, and I told him he should sign up for the bump because he'd fit right in with the obsessive dumb worries and questions. He got all offended again. Sorry, not sorry! He's been so over the top worried about every little thing. It's endearing sometimes, but other times I wanna smack him.
So on Friday (or whenever that was), I posted in the thread about committing to a name saying that we had been pretty set on Adelaide Christine and were just testing it out. Yeah, as soon as I finished typing that and mentioned it to DH, we somehow switched to Nora Christine. Since then, we have both found that saying it was so much more natural. What a quick and funny switcharoo! Now to see if it sticks -- and whether Nora or Norah is best.
I'm waiting for a conference call and watching the news, hoping the predictions for snow don't change. As long as I don't have to go to work and I can play the pregnancy card and get DH to clear the driveway, I'm all about a blizzard. 12-14 inches? Bring it on!

I can't fathom dealing with snow. It's going to be in the 70s all week here where I live. But I can't enjoy it because we all have mountain cedar fever in this house.
My fucking cat pissed on the couch overnight. If we hadn't just had this snow he'd be an outside cat immediately. My whole living room reeks, even though I sprayed the couch down with cleaner, and I don't know what else to do on a couch that doesn't have removable cushions. We really don't have extra money for a new couch right now!!!!!
My cat does this sometimes...Soak it with Nature's Miracle no more spraying spray...Let it dry and do it again. Then use Lysol disinfectant spray on it and let it dry. Takes the stain/smell right out of mine.
I second the Nature's Miracle advice. Unfortunately, we have had this situation on a couple of occasions. I've read that using anything with chemicals to clean can actually make it worse, if the cat is doing it as a marking thing. Plus, Nature's Miracle is an enzymatic cleaner that breaks down the pee scent to get it out, so that they aren't attracted to it as a recurring pee location.
We had to do this once during this pregnancy and I will say I really hated the smell of the Nature's Miracle itself, even though it has never bothered me before. Probably a pregnancy smells thing. It stopped bothering me once the Nature's Miracle scent aired out, a few days after the cleaning. Now we don't smell either NM or cat pee.

That is brilliant, except that after trying this on DD exactly once I'm positive she would start tantruming on purpose just to see videos of herself.
I lurked on the place-that-shall-not-be-named today for the first time all weekend, and I think they took our "seriousleigh" comments too seriously. Someone is asking whether to spell Charlie "Charleigh" or "Charlea" and they're all on board with Charleigh. Someone else chimed in that their daughter will be named "Avreigh"
Looking over there now I feel like it's some sort of sick joke. And sorry I know we are done talking about it but I thought you all would get a chuckle out of this gem.
Am I crazy for planning to go to the gym after work and then drive home when it's going to be darker and possibly snowing harder? I think I'll see how it looks. I just love my Body Pump class!
I just had my Performance Evaluation with my managaer. Last year we spent 90 minutes talking about my coworker, other than "you're doing good as far as I can tell." This year he actually focused on me and my work and my future. I feel so good about it and he even addressed what I need to do to get promoted and new projects, which were talking points I was planning on bringing up.
We also discussed our plans for after ML. I know I can for sure work from home at least 2 days a week and have a little felxiblity in my start and end times on my in office days. Such a relief! My mom said she can come to me or we can come to her and she and I can work/ take care of the baby off and on during the day (She runs a home office with my dad).

@texasmama15 - I want that cheesecake so bad. Tell me it was amazing.
My random is I just discovered what heartburn is. I always thought it was lower in the chest (heart, right?) as opposed to just the esophagus. After a couple days of suffering, I Google'd it and lo and behold! I have major heartburn. Finally bit the bullet and took a shot of water with baking soda last night. Almost threw up but it worked.
Oh yes, the lovely acid reflux. I have GERD and it's horrible. Funny enough, it has not bothered me much since being preggo (knock on wood).
I've been an emotional mess lately - which is so unlike me. Seriously, people tell me I have constant bitch face... but these hormones are making me some crazy sappy lady. DH makes fun of me because I cry at like everything on TV these days.
My MIL bought our carseat/stroller system today! It is on a great sale at Target for their baby sale. Regular price at Target is $279 and BRU price is $279 but right now its $189 at Target! It's the Graco Sport FastAction Click Connect stroller system.

I don't trust DC-area folks in the snow at all. I wouldn't do it but I am jealous that you have a class that you love so much!
Hmm, that is a good point. I trust myself to drive safely but last time, when the roads weren't plowed, people were still trying to go 50mph.
Two old friends from our small town back home just posted their pregnancy announcement online. One is 7weeks and the other is 5weeks. Get a fucking life..are you kidding me?!
This baby never sleeps. Like EVER. She is thumping and jumping around ALL night long to the point that it wakes me up about every half an hour. I'm so grateful that she is healthy & active but JFC...take a nap already!! She is currently bouncing my MacBook off of my belly as I type.
Any mama's have some tricks/pointers? I'm desperate.
I know this might sound crazy. But I slept train my baby before birth. I woke her up around 8 am if she seemed asleep. Then maybe around lunch. Then at night I would not let my husband touch my belly or play.
With my first he would play with my belly around 10:30-11pm at night and when she was born she would wake up at that time every night. Took us forever to get over that habit.
The last child likes to be in bed by 9:30, it's been like that since birth. She's 1 1/2 now.. So maybe it seems hippieish but it seemed like it worked

amelandre I'm so sorry about your cat peeing on the couch! One of our cats has a problem with going outside the litter box, I second using Nature's Miracle. I buy that shit in bulk. I don't know if vinegar is safe on your couch, but if it is, a mix of equal parts vinegar and water usually works wonders on cat urine odor/stains in the carpet.

Ha, posted here a bunch and forgot the reason I came in. My random: I made the best smoothie ever. Frozen strawberries, banana, vanilla almond milk, and vanilla whole milk yogurt. My toddler and I finished the whole blender of it this morning.

You're right. This does seem crazy!! I mean TETO but usually jiggling actually puts in utero babies to sleep, and sleep patterns and schedules can't possibly be established in newborns because their brains are not able to organize sleep that way.

My firm picked up a new client as of the first of the year with the idea I'd be doing all of the work. They have been a great source of work and really nice, but since I'm kind of a worry wart, I'm already stressing about what's going to happen when their new lawyer disappears for at least a couple of months (figuring out what I'm going to do about mat leave when I basically run my own practice is a different source of stress I won't get into). One of the things we had agreed that I would do for them was to put on a seminar and they want to have it just a couple of weeks before my due date. I found someone else who is willing to be my backup if I go out before then, so I don't know why I'm so stressed about it, but I almost hope I'll go into labor before it happens because I really can't imagine delivering a seminar when I'm 38 weeks pregnant. I'm picturing all of the people in the room wondering if I might go into labor during the presentation.
mlbrooks, we have the original version of the Graco Click Connect car seat and easy fold stroller. We really liked it for DS.
