What is the purpose of the daily ticker changes?

I don't really have an opinion about them, but it's what most BMBs end up doing, I think. Once the board gets busier, those threads will probably be a lot busier too. If your EDD changes, I assume you'd just start posting in the check-in on a different day.

Guys, you don't respond in each one every day. You only participate in the one a week that applies to you. For me, after a loss, I love it because it's exciting to discuss how I've reached another milestone week.

If you find your due date changes, then switch to a different ticker change day. Or don't participate.

Having one a week would be dumb because I'm only another milestone week ahead on Tuesdays.

If you don't understand the point of it or don't want to participate, don't.

This is my line of thinking right now too. If someone wants to check-in with everyone on a weekly basis rather than participating in ticker change threads, that person can post a weekly thread.

I wasn't going to post in a thread until my EDD was confirmed. I started right away with DS then switched when my EDD was off by a few days... So there might be a few people like me who are just waiting for their appts...

No, buttercup said we should only have one a week. For one, that completely defeats the purpose of the daily ticker change. And again, I don't see how having one a day is negatively affecting the board? Who cares if there are only a few responses in each right now? There's only a handful in my weekly PgAL thread too...

Any time one of these conversations about which threads a board should/shouldn't have comes up, I'm in the camp that if you want to see a certain type of thread, go ahead and start it.

If you want more threads that everyone can participate in, go ahead and start those threads.

This board isn't super active right now because I'm sure there are a lot of people out there who are due in April who don't know yet. Also, some people may be waiting on EDD confirmation or to pass a loss milestone before participating. It'll get busier over the next few months, I'm sure.

...but everyone's ticker changes every week, so it would still be a 'ticker change check-in'. all we'd have to do was add an extra question: "What day did your ticker change?" I understand it's still very early, and there are many A16 mamas not participating yet, but I'd rather have more threads that everyone can participate in.

I think the daily ones are silly.  I don't participate but its just silly.  I've seen weekly ones on other boards, but not really a daily one.

MissMusic, maybe all BMBs don't do it, but the two I participated in previously did, and CAR does too, so I just assumed it was the norm.

Also, I tend to mentally gloss over the stuff I see all the time.  I don't mean to, it just happens; I don't read them often and I don't particpate.  If 1x/week thread was up I'd probably read it and participate.  Thats just me, though.

Do we really need a thread complaining about a different thread? Give it time for the board to get going. I can agree that ticker change threads can be extremely helpful after a loss. My previous bmb did them and it didn't clutter the board or cause problems. If it helps someone or makes someone more comfortable, I'm all for it.

I also figure due dates are sort of just guesses anyways. I'll stick with Fridays even if mine changes, mine was Jan 4 with DD then Jan 2 and she was born Dec 29.

ETA my old BMB did daily ticker changes, I like it. I troll through some of the other ones when they pop up. If you like one of the GTKY questions just use it to start a new group thread.

To me, the OP saying she doesn't like to click multiple threads seems like a complaint. Use whatever words you want, I still think this is silly.

I am not sure if that is a correct interpretation of what I said. Having a question or a discussion is not policing. Policing is calling out people for posting out of specified threads. There are pros and cons of different check in options. We didn't have daily ticker changes in my old bmb so I was trying to understand the purpose of daily ticker change check ins. 

You were essentially calling out everyone for doing a daily ticker thread and said "I vote we don't have one."

As for how you don't appreciate my responses, I'm not sure what your issue is. I think it's ridiculous that you started a thread to complain about a thread that you don't want to see here. I don't care for the randoms threads, so I simply don't participate. If you don't like a thread, just don't participate.

I think it's fair to discuss what threads folks do/do not want on the board. I get that if you want a thread you can start it, but this is more a discussion of how check-ins are organized. It seems redundant to have daily and weekly check-ins, but if folks want both, *shrug*. I'm not really a fan of the daily ticker posts and I like weekly check-ins.

While I understand that the board is not as busy right now because there aren't 1000 people Intro'ing and posting the same question (sorry, just checked in on the TB), I do enjoy the daily ticker threads. I like reading what my other Wednesday gals are up to.

That said, I would participate in a weekly change or a daily change.

For those saying that the board will pick up and get a lot busier - I don't necessarily think this will be the case. There's significantly less traffic on the BMBs here compared to how they used to be on TD. If you check out the other BMBs you will see they aren't super active.

Also, let's all take a chill pill. We all (hopefully) have a long nine months together, and we should be able to have discussions about how the board is managed.

My vote would be in favor of the daily ticker change. It may just be because I am used to it from my previous BMB. I enjoy seeing what my other Tuesday gals are up to! My thought is that since the posts say "____ Ticker Change", it is very easy to see if the post applies to you and whether or not you want to read/participate. I just think it's a nice way to connect with a small set of other A16 moms.
