I also had gd and that's as big of a pita and a lot less straightforward than just avoiding certain foods.
No. Counting carbs is hard and sucks ass. But playing the "does this have x in it or not" game sucks just as much and is less straightforward. Bc you have to guess.

I would take the GD diet over avoiding dairy, gluten or soy any day. I've done the GD diet and while it was annoying, half-assedly avoiding dairy for a a couple weeks was a whole lot worse. The GD diet also made me feel great.

It's not just counting carbs. There are plenty of times that you are under your carbs but your bg still goes nuts. Some foods (like corn is typical) spike you bg just looking at them. There's a LOT of guessing involved. At least there was for me. But at least there was also concrete feedback.

I had GD. Can't we just say they both suck and they're both hard? It's extra sucky when screw ups physically affect your children tho.

The guesswork is kind of ridiculous with the GD diet. I really wanted a straightforward THIS IS WHAT YOU SHOULD EAT guideline and it really doesn't exist.
Continuing: Which is really maddening because there is huge amounts of data out there about foods to eat than help maintain bg levels, but they don't link up with GD information and that's stupid.

They are both hard. Avoiding foods suck. Especially stuff like soy or even dairy that is hidden in so much stuff. But when you're moaning about how you can't do it or you have nothing to eat my eyebrow goes up.

Guesswork is also really frustrating when the FDA allows soy to go unlisted as an allergen, when it really is an allergen to many.
OMG soeaking of allergy free foods... Have y'all tried this kinnickinnick or something like that brand? They have these frozen donuts... I just had the cinnamon sugar ones. You heat them for 20 seconds in the microwave and they are really good! They are gluten free, dairy free, soy free, and nut free. And possibly kosher. We got them at whole foods while looking for moon's imaginary coconut yogurt.

Is it creepy that I get excited when I read a post from you saying that you found something yummy to eat? I know how hard it is to eat like you do!

D found some at kroger, I don't know the brand tho bc he threw the paper away but Ill have to look. Actually I think it's something shorter... But so far he got choc choc chip muffins (OMG good) and cinnamon rolls. I think they were one of the brands that basically allergy free.
I've never been a cookie dough fan, but I tried some of the raw batter of the new batch (I didn't eat the whole first batch...MH took two dozen to a potluck) of Pat's Cookies tonight. It was just ok. I'm not sure if I'm brave enough to try it if there's raw egg in instead of applesauce though. When I can eat ice cream again, I'll try the cookie dough to see what I'm missing.
I am lacking in a Whole Foods for another few weeks.
I think I may go insane broke buying everything there.
FTFY
Heh, probably not. I go broke at a local store, so I'm staying with them. For the same reason I avoid Walmart as much as possible. I like keeping my money local, plus I prefer the variety the local offers. Plus, I'm a member ($24.00 a year) where I can call or email my order, they get it and apply the bill to my account, then deliver it without extra charges for normal turn around. If I need a rush with under 2 hour turn around, it's $5.00. Wonderful with sick kids. Plus, during flu season or disease outbreaks this is the only way I grocery shop, my girls are limited in exposure since illness is very hard on my daughter with heart condition. Best was when both girls were sick, they brought anything by immediately without charging the $5 AND picked up their medication that I phone authorized them to do.
I do most of our our shopping at whole foods and it can actually be really cost effective. It's easy to overspend buying extra stuff, but they have great prices on a lot of their house brand stuff and it's good quality.
