Does your workplace culture emphasize being on time?
I am, in general, a very, very punctual person. If something starts at 8am, I'm there by 7:58 so that I'm ready to start at 8am. I just think it's polite. DH and I have purposely been working on getting me to loosen up about it. If it's a casual thing, and someone says "oh, come on over around 5", I try not to freak out if we're running behind and don't get there until 5:15.
But at work.. it drives me nuts. We have a standing 8am meeting. I'm there and ready to go by 8am. But I'm the only one there. Crazy boss lady walks into the meeting (that she herself scheduled!) at 8:01 or 8:02, spends a few minutes fiddling to get the computer up and running, dialing in to the conference line, etc.. and we're lucky to start by 8:10. She's also one of the first people to complain about the fact that our analysts are consistently late to work.
In my mind? If she wants people to show up in a timely manner on a consistent basis, she's got to respect the fact that we have a clock. If she wants to call an 8am meeting, she needs to be ready to start.. AT 8am. Not 8:05, not 8:07. And if she's scheduled a meeting for 8am-9am, the meeting ends at 9am. Not 9:10 because she started ten minutes late for no real reason.
I don't know if I'm being realistic or not though, or if I'm just being extreme. Or if I'm just finding reasons to complain because I'm sick of working here / with her.
