Don't hate me but we are just tackling potty training this week. Jack has done really well in the house so now I feel like we can venture to the outside world. The only problem is he gives me little notice and there isn't much time in between his pee sessions. What did you or do you guys do for day long events? If I put pull ups on him is he going to regress? TIA

I know a lot of us have done underwear with a pull-up over it out of the house or in the car. That way they still feel like they're wearing underwear, but it saves a big mess.
I make Dagny go before we leave the house & always carry a change of clothes with me for her. We've only had 1 accident (yesterday at the zoo). A lot of times I can tell she has to go but she doesn't WANT to which results in crying as I make her sit on the toilet. But I don't think spill up would cause a regression- that's what I put her in after her accident yesterday & she still told me when she needed to go.

Such a great idea, I never would have thought of that! Thanks!

irish1213, I second what aimeefarrahfowler said. If he's just beginning to PT I would put him in a diaper over underwear if you are anywhere that you can't get to a bathroom quickly. That way he still feels the underwear and will know that they get wet, but will have the diaper as a backup

I think it was justbeth that originally suggested it to us all. I can't take the credit.
britbratjf We did potty training in November and I still rarely go anywhere without a change of clothes. He will insist he doesn't have to pee until it's too late.
If she was in the car for a long period of time I did a pull up. But if we were out and about I didn't- I just kept reminding her she needs to let mommy know in time so we can get to a potty, so we don't have any accidents
I'm not using a diaper when we out and about anymore. I get her to potty before we go and plan for a potty visit every 2-3 hours. I bring a change of clothes in case.
We our in a trip right now and had a king drive on Wednesday so I did a pull-up over the underwear for that but still took her potty often. I just thought she might fall asleep or something.
She's doing great with peeing on the potty but will sometimes have a poop accident.

I used the dog training pads on her car seat for a bit, so I wouldn't have to wash it if she had an accident. She never did though so I cant say if it works or not
I've just been doing pull-ups when we're out but I always call them underwear. I'd say we have about a 75% success rate when we're out with pull-ups. I'd probably make the switch but Robin's afraid of automatic toilets so sometimes we need a plan b.

If you put a post-it note in front of the sensor it won't go off while he's on the toilet.

This is a good idea! Now I just have to convince him that Target and the grocery store changed their toilets...

I generally bring her first thing when we enter someplace we are going to be for a while like a zoo, amusement park etc and get it out of the way. Then I start asking about an hour later or each time we have a snack or stop for a drink. Also if we are conveniently by one I suggest I have got to go and that usually gets her to compete to go. I'd rather go too often than not enough. I kept a spare set of clothes for a good 6 months after training in the car at least if not on me.
We did what aimeefarrahfowler suggested with the undies on the inside of the pull-up and what xanthepants suggested with timing and suggesting I have to go (because inevitable she has to go first if she thinks I really need to go).
