UGH!! This is why things take so frigging long!!

Our SW just emailed me asking if either one of us have ever lived in two certain towns in CT, which we haven't. We were asked this exact same question over a year ago, after our initial background checks were done and we had our first high-level interview and home visit.

I emailed her back and told her we hadn't lived in those towns and asked for an update. I was under the impression that our homestudy revisions were just about completed and we should be licensed soon. Well, her response made me think otherwise:

I sent out the CPS request in MA for Shawn and yes, I am working on revisions. As I come up with things I can’t answer, I will email you.

I had to look up what CPS was because I didn't know what the heck she was talking about. It's Child Protective Services, which I should have realized. DH was in and out of foster care throughout his entire childhood, which has has been very open about from the beginning. So, why are they JUST NOW requesting this information from the state of Massachusetts, at the tail-end of our homestudy review? Shouldn't this have been requested long ago? Perhaps in December, when we submitted our fingerprints?

This is so incredibly frustrating to us!!! I just had to vent.

I'm sorry they are taking so long. I would be so frustrated with them and constantly asking for updates. I really do hope they get it together and can get you licensed soon!!

That is frustrating.

Just a heads up, MA is very regulated (my employment background check took weeks) and the (now) Department of Children and Families is a hot mess, so it could take a while

In my state they do a "CPS check" on every adult in the home. It's part of the background checks. Basically they want to see not only that there isn't criminal background but also that there aren't allegations of child abuse or neglect. Often those cases never make it to criminal charges and won't show up in a regular check.

Could it be that rather than the foster care history?

And yes, it takes forever. (Not the check, just the whole situation."

It's possible that's what it is, but either way, why would they wait until now to do this check? The homestudy was turned in two months ago and should have been approved by now, and our license issued. If this is something that has to be done for every adult in the home, it should have been done months ago. This is what is making me crazy.

I've BTDT. My experience was that they would say things needed to be done to cover for themselves and/or restart their clock.

I hope it moves along. I was just trying to offer insight into what this check is, not saying it shouldn't have been done ages ago.
