mumomma13 the BF recommendation is to use the slowest flow nipple & paced feeding techniques so LO won't prefer the ease of a bottle to nursing. That said, if LO is reluctant to take a bottle, sometimes moving up a nipple level will help catch their interest & help them realize there's milk in the bottle.
I finally get to participate before 3pm. O was up at 5 with a huge blow out (condolences flyster ) and then we brought him in bed with us and slept till 8! It's stormy here so we are hanging at home and hopefully snuggling and playing all day.
lotsofdotts mrsclark731 I may have to initiate some fun during nap time after reading those spams! WittyLittle I don't know we would do without you here if that makes you feel any better mumomma13 such a beautiful picture of you both aggiebug poor puppy! I'm glad she has you badw0lf have fun tonight. Alcohol is always a nice mood changer lilyelayne yay for being home. Relax all day momma!
aggiebug I feel like we may be dog twins. My beagle's name is Austin (although he's 5, and a boy, duh) and the biggest wuss. He did the bloody toy thing a couple of years ago, but that front lower tooth was extracted. Apparently it was cracked under the gum (ow!) from when he was homeless. We adopted him when he was 2. But he's such a sweetie and a sleepy, gentle soul
Swim lessons were great as always. He's getting let go with a push when back floating now, which is both fun and slightly worrisome. I keep being slightly afraid he's going to float like my dad (also known as sinking like a rock), but he seems to be reasonably bouyant.

Ahh. Apparently I need to read up because I don't even know what paced feeding means. I mean, I can guess from context clues, but I definitely don't know how to do it.
But like she said if you are struggling with a bottle I might avoid trying it at the point. It's purpose is to not make the bottle easier and thus more enticing than the boob. Clearly that isn't a problem.

I would imagine that for a baby as old as yours who is well established with nursing, bottle preference is less of a fear than with, say, a 4 week old. But paced feeding can also help caregivers not go through as much milk, which is helpful because pumped BM is a limited supply item. The goal is to make bottle feeding as similar to nursing as possible.
Back from vacation and back to work. And this morning while pumping in my car, I had milk going back up into the tube. This hasn't happened before, and I quit pumping because I didn't know what to do. Any one had that happen before?
After 1.5 hours in line, got car seats checked out! They helped me correct the rf car seat angle with a pyramid of pool noodles (I had just used 1). So, even though Fiona was flipping out for 30 min or so, I think it was worth it to have hey in a safer seat now.

Could it be that the valve needs to be replaced (the soft plastic part that moves up and down with the suction)? I'm just guessing but that sounds like the only way milk would get in. How was vacay?
My poor little dog, Aspen, seems to have hurt her leg yesterday. She is barely putting weight on it and shakes when I come near. I haven't quite pinpointed the problem, but I am fearing she has torn her crutiate ligament (ACL in people). ugh. On top of needing a dental cleaning and possible tooth extraction as a two year old. She is quite pathetic! She wimpers when she tries to sit but was going crazy when I put on running clothes this morning. She did NOT like being left at home that is certain.
I have a book exchange with some local ladies today. I am excited!
Can't speak for pups, but I've had to have two ACL surgeries... Having a busted ACL doesn't hurt per se, as it just stabilizes the shin bone from going too far forward or back. When it moves too far forward or back, that can hurt, it doesn't happen with every step, if that makes sense. It stabilizes the leg. The only thing you can do for an ACL is repair it. Hope your pup just sprained something rather than tore an ACL....
For those of you who've had difficulty getting LO to take a bottle, what are the brands that've worked best? I've been using avent and have tommee tippee and dr brown's. I am determined to work on LO taking a bottle after vacation. Also, do you just use the age recommendations on the nipples? I sound like a newb. Lol
The only one I got dd to use was the comotomo bottle. It came with stage 2 nipples, so I tried that. She was 20 weeks when we finally got her to take it, and she took it on first try. Some things we did initially were let her lay on back on floor and pull it into her mouth on own (not a great feeding angle but just to get her used to the nipple), distract her with tv which we don't usually let her watch, and walk around the room. It was around 13 dollars on amazon so we only got 4, but we've loved them so far.
Hi all. We made it to DC this morning with zero traffic. For those not on the East Coast, I95 between Fredericksburg and DC is the worst hell ever. Getting by with no stoppages is amazing.
So I just gave Abby her first bottle of supplementing formula. It feels weird. I'm kinda depressed, but kinda relieved. I've been struggling with taking the first step towards weaning. It's time for both of us but it's still hard. I need a hug

I hadn't thought of that, I'll try it though, thanks.
The vacation was wonderful. We had a beautiful room, ate lots of yummy food and had some fun. We didn't get any time sans LO, but he was so good, and didn't fuss too much with the changes in his routine.

Hugs for you! It is hard, I know. You are a great mom. Hang in there.
Thanks ladies. I'm still going to hold onto pumping a few times a day and nursing AM and PM for awhile and do this very slowly. It's just so freaking hard and I didn't expect to feel this way. I know 6 months EBF was great for her too and there is nothing wrong with the formula. I just need to get it out of my head. *sigh*

Eesh 2 surgeries that stinks. I have had one repaired myself. Dogs seem to get partial tears frequently and they seem better at building scar tissue to stabilize the joint and ligament than we are. For now it's rest and anti-inflammatories hopefully she will let me evaluate it better in a few days :/

Lots of Internet stranger hugs for you. It is hard, but she's getting fed and that's most important. Plus you made 6 months. It's a big accomplishment.
mands1125 I am right there with you on mom guilt about weaning. I have cut back to 3 pumps a day and have had to increase the amount of formula we supplement with.

That's good to know about dogs... I had my 4th knee surgery last month and I'm gearing up for my 5th knee surgery shortly. Knee injuries are no joke.
I'd love for Abby to sleep well in this hotel "crib" tonight but I don't see that happening. She is making all kinds of noises trying to get comfortable. Ugh.
Hey guys. Just popping in to update anyone who remembers about my dad. The house is looking good and they have a move in date of sept. 15.
That's great! So soon (although I know it's been a long process). Hope all is well with you!
I think it was quicker since it wasn't demoed. They just gutted it. Drywall is up and tile is in. They're bathroom is amazing (Except there's LED lights in the shower lol).
They're neighbor only has a foundation so far. It took so long to get it cleared and stuff.

So glad to hear this update! Well, not about the neighbor, but about your dad.
