Supplementing with formula

Hey guys! Occasionally I supplement with formula occasionally, usually topping off a breast milk bottle with an oz or two of formula. This ends up happening maybe twice a week? Rarely he will get a full formula bottle. When I do use formula LO gets VERY stinky gas, and will not poop for a few days. He doesn't seem uncomfortable though. So my question is is this par for the course? We've always used Similac but I'm wondering if I should try something else that would be more gentle on his tummy? Eventually I will be making the switch to formula (not sure when tho) so I was wondering if I should try to give him a little formula every day to get his tummy more used to it, rather than being so sporadic with it? Any advice would be appreciated.

What kind of formula do you guys use for supplementing?

it doesnt hurt to try something else. if you have samples of something else id try that first. i dont think you necessarily need to prepare your baby for the formula switch; id wait until closer to when you know for sure.

whatever you do dont fall ploy to similac for supplementation and the enfamil equivalent whatever its called. supposedly there is nothing special about them, just a marketing ploy.

We use the Similac for Supplementation but we also tried a bunch of other ones before settling on this one. Some others caused constipation and painful gas. I think it's worth trying a few others to see if your LO reacts better to them.

Im not sure, weve never supplemented before. But everytime i see the LC she sends me home with formula samples just in case. Maybe you could see if the pedi or LC at your hospital has samples to offer you, too?

We recently started adding a bottle a day of formula for DD (she's 7 1/2 months) and we've tried 2 different types so far and her tummy definitely had different reactions to them. I think it's really just trial and error untill you find what works.
