I don't think you're nuts. It's only been a couple of months and he's still interested, so you could offer and see what happens. He's still little and many LOs are nursed until they're much older.
I think it's similar to the nap-weaning we went through. He used to nurse to sleep for naps then I'd lay him in the crib. When he started waking up and throwing a fit when I laid him down, I said no more nursing before nap. We did that for at least a couple of months, maybe more, even though he asked to nurse at every nap time. I think around Thanksgiving, when we had guests and a lot going on and I wanted to be sure he napped, we tried nursing to sleep again and he did fine. I was able to tell him he would nurse a little then lay down and go to sleep, and he's been fine with that. Since that's easier than fighting with him to fall asleep in his crib, that's what we do now. It was a pretty long break from a major nursing, and we're right back to it.
