Short version is that DD needed shunt revision surgery this weekend and getting isolation was an absolute nightmare. We were placed in a double room with a toddler and what seemed like the entire extended family. DD is a former 28 weeker, now 3 weeks adjusted and we were told repeatedly by our NICU not to take her anywhere that there are people because her immune system is compromised.
Medical team at this hospital (not our nicu hospital) seemed to have no concept of prematurity and fought us about getting a room to ourselves. After 5 hours of us holed up in basically an unused office area, they finally found us an empty room.
Letters will be flying when we get out of here, but have any of you experienced anything like this? I'll be getting medical orders of isolation from all of her doctors and specialists so this never happens to us again, but I'm in shock that this happened at all.
