Does anyone else's LO refuse to use a sippy cup? I've tried soft spouts, hard spouts, and straws. We have a whole frickin shelf of cups and the twins will only take bottles. We want to ditch bottles in a month or so. Thoughts?

The only thing DS will drink out of besides a glass is a camelbak. I don't know what I'm going to do when it's time to switch to cm. (He won't take bottles either.)

Ours does! I've tried showing her how to use the sippy cups and so far she'll just pick it up and then use it to make noise on her high chair. I have one with a hard spout, soft spout hoping to remind her of her bottle, tried a straw and we've had no luck either.

G does the same thing. We have tried Sooo many cups (nuby, avent, Tommee Tippee hard spout, Playtex straw cup), and all she does is bang it on her chair or use it as something to throw at the dog:(.
Out of all of them the Avent kind she at least tries for a minute, the others she pitches immediately on the floor.

DS1 did this. We had to just keep offering it and eventually he tried it. If I remember we had to offer his formula in it. Water just wasn't doing anything to entice him to try.

DS won't use one. I don't think he gets it. He likes when I give him the hard spout ones and let it drip into his mouth, but that doesn't last long. He chews on straws and soft spout and chews the side of the cup when I give him from a normal non-sippy.
It'll come with time and practice I guess. New ballpark for me, DD switched herself to straw cups at 7 months.

what if you water down juice, just to entice them with something sweet? Maybe they will work harder to learn how to use a sippy for something sweet? then switch to BM or formula.

DD1 was same way. We finally tried the Lolla Cup. I think you can find them in retail stores now, but 2 years ago you could only find them online. They were from Shark Tank. A little pricey, but well worth it. Also, the TakeNToss was a good bet (first with straws, then and still now the spout kind)

They actually do better with water, strangely. Formula in the sippy makes them irate. (This goes in a fucking BOTTLE!)

Lincoln only chewed on the spout until I got some of those cheap take n toss cups. I don't know why, but it took one or two tries and he got the hang of it.
Miles only started using the straw cup after I let him see ME use it several times. I would bring it out while he was playing or eating and let him see me using it. He then REALLY wanted to have it. Anything I don't offer but use myself he wants.

T hasn't figured out straws yet. We've tried, he loves my cup but just mouths the straw. babycaps - do you use a weighted straw cup? How did you get him to learn to suck?
bennieangel, I use the munchkin weighted straw cups. I just literally would put it in my mouth, suck on it and then let him try it. It took a little time but then one day he sucked and got some milk and was intrigued! It took several days of trying and then an adjustment period of letting him have just about an oz to play with. then we did an 2-3oz but would sometimes have to put it back in the bottle. eventually he just took it all down.
We have the take and toss straw cups and LO just pulls the straw out and plays with it she is getting better with the regular take and toss sippy though. She at least puts it in her mouth. Still figuring out she has to tip it. I know I have to be consistent in offering it though.

We had this same problem she refused to try anything would just chew on it! Then I was using straws a lot so she noticed it and wanted some so I offered her what I was drinking and she got some from the straw and now uses her straw cups for water or watered down juice! For us it was a lot of just continuing to give it to her until she finally got something out of the straw!

We've tried a few different kinds as well. I know she is capable of sucking out of a straw cup (she's successfully done so with several different types), but she has never has been that enthused about drinking that much from them.
We've tried:
Playtex straw cup: Hard to put together properly and started leaking like crazy. Realized the valve cracked already, so that was the end of that.
Munchkin weighted straw cup: A lot easier to put together but really hard to clean the straw, which makes me nervous about milk getting stuck in there. She can definitely drink out of it but doesn't really drink very much. I tried it and it seems a little hard to suck, so I think she might just be lazy since she knows her bottles are still around.
Take & Toss straw cup: I tried this again today and it may actually have potential. She was able to drink from it, although a lot also ended up coming back out of her mouth and/or dribbling down her chin. (I assume that's a practice thing?) For now I think we are going to try these some more, because if she can master them they are SUPER easy to put together and clean.
I would LOVE to be able to wean her from most of her bottles. (Dr. Brown's has so many darn parts to wash.)
