@joybaby5, yes, I've had two elderly relatives who experienced paranoia with Alzheimer's/dementia. One thought people at the nursing home were stealing from him and the other thought Germans were in the basement (WW2 survivor). It was hard to watch, but there's not really much you can do besides reassure them that they are safe and loved and then try to distract them with something else. I'm not really much help. (((Hugs))) to you. Dementia's a cruel bitch.
Haven't read the whole thread yet but saw I was paged. It looks like the tundra outside and the wind is crazy- woke me up a few times. Guessing we have 2 feet or so, and still coming down. But we're fine, we have power and that's all that I care about now! Our complex said they're basically not going to try to dig us out til tomorrow, but they'll keep the actual roads clear in case of an emergency.
Is it still snowing or just blowing? It's hard to know sometimes. in 2014 we had two blizzards in January. Both times the amount of snow wasn't outrageous, but the wind was nuts. Totally nuts. I couldn't see across my street, and it wasn't because it was snowing so hard.
I rather enjoyed those blizzards. I had no baby, no where to go, nothing to do but eat and watch TV. DH was not as amused, since he had to go to work and snowblow.
Both. It's definitely still coming down in the wind lulls. Not sure when it's supposed to stop? But yeah the wind is the crazy part. During the last blizzard 2 years ago I made the mistake of opening our door during a lull to see how bad it was... wind grabbed the door (the inner screen door one) and ripped it backwards and broke it. Oops. But we have nowhere to be, I'm working from home so... let it snow I guess! As long as we have power I'm good.
Coffee to those who had shitty sleep! I hope those in snowmageddom are alright!
@elf828'Id say from what I've seen of your house, you are much better at decorating that I am! I am a little baffled that some of you think I have good taste, DH's family always thinks I am a little out there with decor. But, they just have everything brown in their homes, so I'm sure my home is not their style.
Those of you with relatives with dementia, have any of them become extremely paranoid? DH's grandma has been in the care center for about a month now, and since the passing of her husband, she is very paranoid. Has a hard time sleeping, thinks all of the nurses are out to get her. She doesn't want to leave her room, in fear that they will forget her at the cafeteria, or music room. They tried anxiety meds, which haven't seemed to help. Any insight would be great.
My grandma would do this sometimes.
Is her doctor a specialist in geriatrics? Some meds can do this to them.
Has she been checked for a UTI? Those can cause crazy behavior in the elderly.
This also could be a manifestation of her grief, or it could be that grandpa helped her hide or cope with her paranoia and anxiety and so you didn't see it before.
Hugs. It's rough. How rational is she during the episodes? Sometimes things like a baby doll to carry and rock can soothe them, or a blanket or other security items. Sometimes they want your help coming up with solutions (I'll call every day to see how you are so you can't be forgotten, if you're forgotten you can do XYZ and they'll find you, etc). With my grandma that made her feel like it was more of a possibility, so we just reassured her.
@joybaby5 - I also had an elderly relative with dementia. Like PP, she thought the nursing home workers were stealing from her. Unfortunately I'm not sure there is much you can do. It seems like it's a common side effect of dementia. I'm so sorry you're dealing with it.
MissDemeanor - safe travels. I hope all goes well when you get back to Mexico.

My grandmother thought everyone was stealing her stuff, to the point where she was hiding toilet paper under her bed. If we had anything in our hands around her she'd insist it was hers, and get very upset if you tried to correct her. We found all kinds of things stashed away when she passed....pens, tissues, a tool my SF thought he'd lost....
Hang in there. It's tough. But somewhere in that mixed up head is the person you love, and they know you're there, caring for them. Hugs
DS had an unusually rough night. He's on day three of a stomach bug and now DH has it. Ugh. I made an early morning run for saltines and applesauce. Really hoping I don't get it or at least not until DH is feeling better.
P was better and would let anyone give him night snuggles back to sleep, but after bedtime, she flips her shit unless it's me.
He kept trying last night but she wouldn't calm and I finally went to them. She was hysterical screaming and trying to crawl out of his arms. She loves him so much during the day. I just wish she'd let him take a turn at night. I'm so tired.
Lovetit for solidarity. This is precisely what happened to us yesterday. DH attempted bedtime, it was almost successful, until A realized I was not there. Huge fail.

This was my first thought, too... when I did inpatient admissions for a psych hospital a million years ago, I couldn't accept a referral for a geri patient unless a UTI had been ruled out. I'm sure they have checked, but just in case, I'd ask.
Big ((HUGS)). Dementia is so hard. Does it seem to get worse in the evening? If it's "sundowning," making sure she's getting lots of light into the evening hours can help, as working in more physical activity if she's well enough.
That's as far as my geri/dementia knowledge goes, but I hope she's able to feel a little better soon.
Good morning! It's good to be back...6 days away from F14 felt like an eternity.
We had a good time and ate insane amounts of guacamole, but nothing compared to getting a hug from DS when he woke up to us in the morning. He smiled for ten straight minutes. :-)
I'm glad that everyone out east is safe and sound and staying home.

@joybaby5 i was going to say what rondackhiker mentioned about the UTI. When my grandpa gets them he gets these crazy episodes. He gets paranoid, he thinks there are little men running around the living room. And there's no talking him down. When they stop drinking water it really messes with them. I know with grandpa we have to make him drink water. We refuse to give him his coffee until he drinks a full glass of water. It's a struggle But it helps the episodes for sure.
But it's just a part of the disease unfortunately. Bringing her home not be the best thing either. It's hard taking care of them at home. Grandpa has tried to leave the house MOTN on several occasions.
All you can do is reassure them that everything's okay and that the nurses are there to help them

Morning ladies. Coffee for all who need it and hugs too.
Glad everyone in the NE are doing okay, was thinking about all you ladies yesterday. Even the bf was asking if there was any updates about you all. It made me happy to know he cared
LO woke up at 6 today so I didn't get to shower in peace. Actually I'm still waiting for the bf to get up so I can shower. Luckily I don't work until 10!

starfisher - don't beat yourself up momma. We've all done it. I can attest for the fact that when I did it, we still heard A waaaaay across the house. I felt horrible, but I don't think he's broken. Hugs.
tLex - hi five on the DH assist for your night of record sleep. I can't imagine how good you must feel today.
@all the sleepless mommas - I feel ya. A woke me up at 3:30 today, my alarm was set for 4:15. I did not sleep again. I had my first cup of coffee today in a few days, I hope it doesn't kill me.
megash113 - lovetit for the Texas love, not that damned snow. Move to Texas! It's awesome! It's supposed to be 75 degrees today and GORGEOUS!!! (And I'm trying not to think what 75 degree days in January mean for July!)
MissDemeanor - safe travels today love. I hope things go well for you south of the border & you can have peace with whatever resolution comes out of your talks down there.
I didn't realize how common the no-daddy at night thing was. Even for us non-BF'ers. Mom just has the touch I guess. It's nothing I didn't already know though.
As I replied previously, DH attempted bedtime while I went grocery shopping last night. Massive fail, and A was up ridiculously late since we missed the sleepy window. Ugh.
Today is DH's birthday, I hope he gets a call that he got this job that we're waiting to hear back on. That would be a flipping sweet birthday present.

I could literally fit a second set of my boobs in the nursing bras I bought last spring. I have no idea how these microscopic breasts produce anything. I need to go bra shopping again. I effing hate bra shopping.
Learn from my mistake, don't be so desperate that you think it will be okay to just run in and grab a few bras with your children. It won't be okay!
I plan to get fitted for real after I wean LO, but I had to get something that will work for now.

California girl here, can I just say that I love the names of all of those towns. We don't have names like that out this way.
A lot of them are native American, if they're not stolen from towns in England. They're also all very hard to pronounce lol.
So I got my Fitbit yesterday. Man the sleep tracker is depressing! LO had a pretty good night, he woke up a few times but went back to sleep on his own, but that still wakes me up, and I couldn't get back to sleep. Plus the wind woke me up, and I just felt restless a lot. 3 actual full wakeups, 20 stretches marked as "restless", and that's a good night. When I finish pumping I'm definitely going to start taking melatonin again, I really hate being such a light sleeper.
Speaking of ridiculously hot summers, that's one thing I'm scared about if we move to the warmer climate location. I'm not a fan. However, I'm not a fan of our winters here either. Not sure which is worse.
At least in the summer you can keep your house cool and your car cool and not worry about ice?

@joybaby5 - As others have mentioned, paranoia is very common with dementia. My grandmother was convinced my grandpa was cheating on her after 50 years of marriage, and that he'd made her give up a child he didn't want. ?!?! It's heartbreaking, because you're essentially mourning that person while they're still alive. Hugs.
Were surviving the storm. We have a couple inches on the patio, but out our front door it's drifted over a foot high. The visibility is shit though, and I'm glad to be stuck at home. It's definitely the worst by carissalynp.
I hope everyone still has plenty of taco shells left!

I think I would much rather deal with our crazy hot summers than the winters. Although, the snow days sounds nice, I'm sure they are a PITA after a while. At least the summers don't necessary disrupt our daily routine.
oh and Hi, I've been MIA stomach virus made it's way through our house. Good times. Trying to get caught up. The randoms are so intimidatingly long when you get behind.

Snow days for school generally need to be made up in the summer. With no AC. The last few years kids have been in school until the week of 4th of July!
Omg! No way! I thought there was a cap on how many days could be made up in the summer. This teacher will never be jealous of snow days again!
tLex 11 hours and waking up to breakfast sounds amazing! I'm so glad you got a good night's sleep. @missdemenor have a safe flight. Have you guys talked lately? How are things? Are you still staying until April? #nosy @joybaby5 I'm sorry about the paranoia and dementia. It's such a sad disease.
FFTC: I tried to watch the first episode of FNL once, but couldn't get into it. Maybe because I don't like football, or maybe kids were being crazy, I don't remember, but maybe I'll give it another try.
25 days until the move and I think I might finally drop the weight I gained after my divorce because anxiety/stress/no time to eat. #calidiet
My parents are being so wishy washy (as usual) about how much they are wanting to be involved in this tumultuous process and it's making me a little bit more stressed. I have friends that live in OC that have already offered up couches/PnPs, so I guess it will be OK. I'm a planner and so many variables are question marks currently...where I wish my magic wand was charged so I could wave it and be done. /complaining

So I can never keep up with you ladies!
But I took a shower last night and had a sad realization. My wonderful plump milk filled boobies now look like 2 fried eggs tacked to a wall!! ? man oh man. I guess nursing 5 kids was worth it, although my vanity could argue.
So anyone know where I can get a nice water or padded bra? Lol

starfisher Good luck with thr trial! So your lo has an intolerance not an allergy? Another month until we do our trial for her allergy but our GI is having us do it differently. We're starting with giving her a milk mustaches, letting it dry, then checking for a reacting, if nothing we give her like teaspoon of milk the next day, thrn double each day for a week waiting to see if she reacts.
iwubrory Yes her dairy is just an intolerance, but she does have an egg allergy. So her reaction to dairy is much less sensitive than your LO I imagine - her issues were mostly diaper related. We started with soy and she passed that trial with no issues so the pedi has encouraged us to try dairy as well. It's nerve wracking! I am trying not to spiral down the "she's crabby/screaming/not sleeping well so it must be the dairy" kind of thinking.
