LO is starting to get another good cold. She has had a little cough the last couple of nights but tonight her cough is keeping her awake. Tomorrow we'll start taking action to help her get better so I want to hear your tips and remedies for a LO to kick a cold/cough.
We will normally put some baby Vicks on her feet before bed with footie pj's. She is not good at taking Meds from a syringe so the Zarbez cough syrup was a fail before. Ped said honey but she isn't a fan of that either.
Honestly, we don't do much for a cold other than let it run its course and try to keep her comfortable. We give Tylenol or Motrin at night for comfort. We do a nightly warm bath (rather than our usual every other night) to help clear up some congestion before she sleeps. I try to bump up the vitamin c foods, though the extra drainage creates some nasty poops and so I try to watch it on the acidic fruits to not add to that misery.
I just keep and eye on rising temps and make sure that cough doesn't get too nasty.
Good luck and I hope your LO is feeling better soon!
Honey really is a magic bullet for coughs - I didn't believe before we tried it on Bud out of desperation. We give it to him on one of his little spoons and let him chew/lick it. One ped we saw said we could give him honey in a little weak warm green tea but we haven't tried it. We also do steam treatments - run the shower super hot and sit on the toilet with the door closed. Or the opposite - going outside in the cold can ease a cough, as long as it's not super duper painful type cold.
I saw a bunch of diy natural cough syrups for toddlers on Pinterest, but they all include honey. Do you think your LO would tolerate the honey mixed with other things?
We've been doing the warm, steamy shower... we just bring a couple books in with us and read to her in there. DH tried honey with her the other day and she hated it!
What we do is give him honey if he will take it, keep the humidifier going and also we do a saline nose flush to keep all the mucus and gunk flowing and clean it out. DS started getting a cold Friday and started the nose flush right away and it seems to have helped a ton. We did not do this last time and his cold seemed to last forever.
Nose Frieda all the way. Also, they may seem gimmicky, but I love boogie wipes (unscented). DS HATES having his nose wiped with tissues and even wipes, but doesn't mind boogie wipes at all. I don't know what it is about them but they work.
