Hi ladies, Sorry in advance if this has been discussed already. My doctor has decided to out me on Adalat/Nifedipine for high blood pressure and for some contractions. I have a history of preterm labour with a loss last pregnancy at 22 weeks. It's a class c drug for hypertension. He assured me it is safe for both baby and me, but the more google searches I do the more conflicting info I come across. Just wondering if anyone had any real life experiences with Nifedipine they can share.
I don't have any experience with this, but just wanted to send good thoughts your way. I would suggest staying away from google - it will only make you more anxious. I say if you trust your doctor, and he has had your full trust, I would go with what he says. He definitely knows more than Dr. Google does. If you have additional questions - give the nurse a quick call, and ask all the questions you need to in order to feel comfortable. Good luck!
@blackpearl08 I'll check out the high risk check-in The preterm labour was from a rare infection, but my cervix is begining to shorten slightly and I've had some mild contractions this time around so I'm being monitored closely.
I guess I'm just disappointed. I didn't want to take any drugs during the pregnancy. I won't even take Tylenol. But I trust my Dr and I spoke to him at length about the drug and he assures me the side effects are minimal and rarely any effect on the baby.
ladymack, my OB put me on labetalol when we started TTC, I was on that with hydrochlorothiazide and as soon as I got pregnant we stopped that one. My ob and MFM were clear that this one is very safe with pregnancy. I also had preterm labor with my DD at 29W. I would really inquire with MFM about the options for medications.
One of my food friends' husbands is a pharmacist. He always encourages me to ask pharmacists questions about medicine and doctors questions about illness.
I'd call up your pharmacist and double check. No harm in that.

I, too, am on Labetalol. I would trust your doctor over Dr. Google, and just know that although you don't *want* to take meds, they're what's best for you and your babe. I'm glad you're being monitored, so take care of yourself!
Honestly I think all meds have risks. You have to weigh those side effects and the likelihood of them with the outcome you are trying to prevent when taking them. If you feel like you need more support feel free to join the High Risk check-in. High BP is the most common factor in many of the mamas there.
I also take metoprolol (lopressor) for my tachycardia and it's a class C.
However, I take several category C drugs because the benefits outweigh the risks to baby. It sounds like your doctors have everything under control for you..and I agree...this pregnancy thing ain't easy!!
