So, it's one month after Christmas

What toys are your kids still playing with?

Anything you are surprised they love? Anything that you thought would be "the toy," and it was discarded days later?

Thought for sure my LO would love his doorway bouncer. Turns out spinning in circles and letting go is way more fun to him than actually bouncing.
He loves this musical starfish thing that was a stocking stuffer. Ok buddy. Whatever works.

We honestly didn't get him much, but he loves it all still. The slide was a hit, which we expected, but we didn't expect the way he uses it. In addition to climbing/sliding, he likes to let alllll of his toys have a ride too. Cars, balls, teddy bears, plastic food, doesn't matter, down the slide it goes. I'm so glad he can't catch the cat....

He really loved his rocket ship for a while, but hasn't played with it much since about a week after Christmas. I thought he would adore his cash register, but not really.

But he loves his octonauts (from family) and wild kratts toys (from santa).

On the surprising front, I agree on the stocking stuffer - he loves his fire engine that I bought at the last minute (seriously, Christmas eve). It is cool, but I am still surprised how into it he is.

Our neighbor's daughter (4) came to play at our house over the weekend while they set up for a party.. She informed us that DD must be "very sad" because she doesn't have enough toys and definitely not any good ones. She asked what DD got for Christmas and we told her a couple books, a hairbrush, cowboy boots/hat, an outfit, and a xylophone. At which point, she looked straight at DH, told him he needed to get a better job so we can buy more toys.

But she doesn't really play with the toys we have, so it feels pointless to buy her more.

The trampoline has been a sanity saver for sure. They love it. But otherwise, they keep asking for the Little People to come back that we packed away to make room for new toys and haven't played much with their new toys. Oh well.

We got DD mostly books and a few puzzles. The books have all been a huge hit. My parents gave her a leap pad which she adores. The biggest surprise has been a little doll house that I bought thinking she "might" like it. She plays with it all the time. The biggest bust I think was the doll stroller and doll that SIL&BIL got her. The doll is honestly a bit creepy looking and fairly big/heavy, and even though at their house she loves to push our nieces baby dolls around and around in a stroller, she hasn't used the one she was given at all.

DS almost 3 has enjoyed his dress up stuff, but hasn't played with it daily as I expected he would. Lawn mower and leaf blower remain popular. He plays with the farm sorting game often.
DD loves her soccer goal and soccer pal and has spent a ton of time outside, also loved the Keva planks (contraptions set) and Solitaire Chess and has played both often
DD got a Thinkfun tipover game and has spent hours in her room solving the puzzles.

Of course, the kindles get daily use. Both girls have surprised me and have read all kinds of stuff that I didn't expect. The seven year old downloaded some app that presents science lessons and then creates tables and graphs interactively and she has spent a lot of time doing that. The oldest read a ton of lower level but quick read Sports Illustrated fiction books on her kindle - I wouldn't have chosen them for her but it got her spending literally hours and hours more reading.

DS got the yellow fisher price talking chair and is obsessed with it. He also got a kids replica lazyboy type chair from HomeGoods that he loves. Apparently my kid loves chairs. Oh and dog toys, he loves playing with the dog toys.

Home Depot workbench was by far the winner for the 2.5 year old. We thought he'd love the FP race track way more than he does.

For the 9 year old, the mini basketball hoop over his closet door was a big winner for him, and a huge annoyance for us. (It's crazy loud.) He also likes his Pokemon DS game. I don't think there's anything he got that he doesn't play with, but at 9 we mostly bought from his Santa list.

DD got this and played with it like crazy for the first week. We now maybe play with it for 10 minutes a week if that. It is cute but way annoying. She got it from one of her adopted aunts who never had kids and thought it was so cute.

DD plays with the same toys (babies and play kitchen) over and over and doesn't seem interested in anything new we get her so I played it smart and just got her a bunch of new clothes. We have worn every dress we got for Christmas at least 3 times now.

DD never plays with her Little People princess castle that was her "big" gift and we thought would be a big hit. She does love the play purse we got her and carries it everywhere.

DS only wanted a few things and really loves them. I spent a lot of time tracking down and getting Hulk pajamas for him. It was a huge hassle but he LOVES them.

G is really into her baby dolls. But otherwise, her favorite thing to do is read. (she is definitely my child)

Christmas (and only grandchild on my side) plus a December birthday. All.the.toys.

Hits are dress up outfits, art supplies, plastic Dino set and Count Your Chickens board game. Unexpected hits include the body wash I bought her (she is obsessed) and a reindeer purse from grandma she now sleeps with. Dud is a scooter that was the only thing she asked for and rarely uses. Hopefully she will grow into it.

She's still playing with pretty much all her toys.  She really likes her toy vacuum, her Little People bus, her bath toys, and her puzzles.

The MIP robot and Paw Patrol tower were big hits, but have died out now. Santa brought one of those marble run sets with the spinners and tubes and that is still taken out every night.
Transformers are treated like treasures.

We got a Daniel Tiger treehouse on clearance, and DD plays with it every single day. She has a Little People farm and a doll stroller she got last year that she STILL plays with every single day. She got a new rocking horse to replace her now too little rocking horse. Old rocking horse she rode every single day. New rocking horse is mostly ignored after the first week. (But she only started with the old rocking horse after we put it in DS's room while I was pregnant, then used it every day for about 10 mos... Maybe we should put the new horse in DS's room. That might entice her.)

$3 Frozen microphone from Target that was a stocking stuffer was a surprise hit. She gives awesome concerts. She stands on the landing of our stairs and sings. She even holds out the mic for crowd participation. It's hilarious.

Wyatt loves the jumper he got from my parents. He got some little things that he still enjoys too.

We actually did great this Christmas! Got a ball fort and tunnel, a kitchen, and some drawing-type sketch things. The kids play with them all (a little differently, of course, but the love them).

And, just b/c, my DS and DD are now having conversations. DD's contributions are mostly, "Yeah?" but DS chatters away. There's breaks and taking turns in the convo and everything. It's freaking ADORBS!!!!!!!!

DS loves his play kitchen more than I thought he would! Also he loves the toddler cds and the cheap little Disney cars book and mini cars set. He does not play with his train table and trains as much as I thought he would. At least not yet.
