For those who had thrush, what were your symptoms? I've googled so much and I have no idea whether I just still have sore/cracked nipples or if it's thrush. A is 2 weeks old. The symptoms online seem the same for both since A doesn't have any visible symptoms in her mouth. I use breast shells during the day and mama earth nipple butter...as long as they are super moist, they are ok. The minute they get dry or too aired out, they hurt so bad and that's what happens at night since I can't wear the shells. Latching is super painful but only for a few seconds and feeding doesn't hurt at all.
I called my doc last week but she didn't seem concerned. I have appointments with lactation consultants this week. just wasn't sure what you all experienced. Thanks!
you can have underlying fungal infection that wont let your cracks heal, do you have pink/ or rosy blotches? Baby doesnt have to show thrush for you to have fungal outbreak, the problem with shells is they allow for warm moist place for yeast to thrive. Do you have shooting pain especially during letdown, are your bras too tight? I stopped wearing the shells and am using the apno and it has helped with the pain but nipples are still slow to heal, but this only 3rd day using it. I am thinking if splurging on wool nursing pads.
Worst letdown pain EVER. It's basically like being tased in the boobs. And it comes every 2 hours even though I pump every four. I've read that it supposed to go away but anyone that's BTDT got a timeframe on that?
Mine went away with dd roughly 3 months in. Haven't had it this time. Just an occasional tingle this time
Laverne that's why I've been worried - 2 weeks and they won't heal. LO and I are no experts at the latch...she takes a few tries and that hurts like hell before we get a good one. And everything I did up until a few days ago I have to imagine was doing more harm than good. I was using disposable pads and they would stick to the cracks and I would have to rip them off and skin would go with it. I've upped all my bras so they aren't too tight and I've been going topless at home for most of the last two weeks anyways. I got the shells and earth mama butter on Friday and it's the first time I've felt any relief.
I hate how there isn't a test/culture they can do. I'll probably call my doc again after the lactation consultants can take a look.
So now twice today E fed on both sides and within a half hour or so wanted even more. Of course both times he seemed settled and happy after nursing. And of course both times I happened to be either asleep (DH had him) or out picking up food. So he got bottles. I am trying hard to not feel down like I'm not enough. Maybe they were mini clusters (he was content after a bottle each time). I also pumped when I got home with food, and only got one ounce per breast when I was getting 1.5 to 2 before. But again trying to remember pumping doesn't equal what baby is getting. I'm just feeling a little inadequate today.

DS1 would do that to me especially in the first 3 months. It got better. I think he did it to also comfort nurse not necessarily to eat. In fact DS comfort nudes any time he was upset, angry, uncomfortable, sky was blue, whatever.
I know it sucks right now and really is deflating but it does get better. DS and I nursed until he was 20 months.
When you are nursing your lo and you can tell they have stopped eating and are just hanging out/using you as a paci, do you ever take them off, or always wait for them to unlatch on their own?
I take him off. He'll let me know if he wants back on. Most the time if he was just hanging out he's fine being pulled off and will just settle down on the brest friend pillow.

I wish there was a test too. I get residual pain in my nipples after I breast feed that comes and goes and my nipples are cracked I'm using the earth mama for the last week and they seem to be healing and then cracking again...which doctor do you go to to get diagnosed?

dont rip them, i finally learned to pour water on them to release them because it happens with cotton too! The kitchen sink sprayer works well. Once i laid a reciving blanket on Nelson as he napped on my chest only to find it glued to me 30 minutes later, thankfully someone was home to rescue me.
My LO has started doing the cutest thing. When I get him all situated on the boppy. He opens his mouth wide to show me he is ready. Then he just waits patiently for me to put him on the boob! He doesn't do that every time but it cracks me up. And makes latching him on 10x easier. I am sure this is typical but it is all new to me.
