Possible to put too much urine on a HPT? *BFP Warning*

I'm not going to put a picture but I'm at a complete loss and it is midnight so I can't call my doctor.

I'm currently 20 DPO following a Clomid cycle (monitored by an RE).  I've been spotting for over a week, a negative test at 13DPO and temps still above cover.  

I had an appointment with my RE today who gave me a prescription for Provera and asked me to take another pregnancy test as a precaution before starting the meds.

I had a few dollar store tests and the first one was stark white, not even the control line showed up.  I had already tossed the sample so before bed I tried again and the same thing happened.  I put more urine on the test and the control line showed up and then a second line in the test window.  It showed up within the three minutes and my first thought was "oh fuck" and then I thought that I may have screwed up the test by using too much urine.  The line is solid, but nowhere near as dark as the control line (which doesn't mean anything I don't think).

So, what says the wise ones of GKU?

ETA:  I'm out of tests so I can't try again tonight. I may be making a run the the pharmacy in the middle of the night so I can test again in the morning.

ETA Again:  MY RE started to do a beta yesterday but since we are OOP for so much he said he wouldn't do the test unless I ended up with a pregnancy test at home or if my period didn't show up after the provera. I'm calling the office as soon as it opens this morning.  I did test again this morning and the plus sign showed up immediately.  There is also an apology post down below about my insensitive (and dumb) question from last night.

Take another test if you're not sure. If it's positive, it's positive. Putting too much urine with no hCG in it is not going to magically make it positive. Congrats.

I do not think what you did would change the result.... I know at midnight saying take another test would not help if you are out ... but I think to be 100% you will have to do another tomorrow.

It detects pee hormones. If there is hormone, then it is possible to turn a test. If there is no hormone, you cannot turn a test, no matter how much you pee on/submerge/bathe it.

You're pregnant. Congrats.

I say go get another HPT and try again. The control line should always show up.

ETA: but like PPs said, it sounds like you're KU. A line is a line.

I'm with everyone else. A second line is a second line. If you want to take another just to confirm, go for it. Congrats.

If the control line didn't show up then the test is invalid. If the control line and a + showed up on the 2nd then you are pregnant.

Maybe it's just me here, but if you did the tests right and even the control didn't show up then I would trust exactly nothing from them even after you added more urine.

Just go buy a FRER this morning and get a clear answer.

For the record: your pee moves through the absorbent strip and carries all the things over first the test line and then the control line. If the test worked correctly, you got a control line and then added more urine, nothing would change. In your case, you added urine and not even a control line showed up. I'd be concerned that something is faulty with the substrates or the absorbent material. I personally would trust nothing.

Just a quick question. Why isn't your Dr. having you get Betas?

I tested using a Dollar Tree pregnancy test with DD 3 years ago. I tested at night as well. The line that came up was very faint. I went and looked for other positive tests of the same brand on the internet to make sure I wasn't going crazy. The next morning I confirmed with a FR test. I always put more than the 6 drops or so when I test and with OPK's. Too much pee doesn't change a thing. Take another test to be sure. Congrats!

I would like to apologize for my insensitive (and dumb) question last night. It was posted during a moment of shock, excitement and sheer terror and I should have thought more before posting it. I've been around here and TD long enough to know better and my feelings got the best of me.

Yes, this! It seems weird that he would give you Provera without doing a beta first. I'd go back and ask for a blood test. I know you've been struggling with this weird cycle so I hope you get an answer soon!

My RE doesn't do betas.

EDIT: Oops - forgot the Provera situation.  I was just thinking of a medicated cycle.

I went out last night and and bought three.  LOL  I tested again this morning.

It was immediately positive!  I'm still in shock because I really thought I was out this cycle and it makes my panic last night over ruining a test seem even more stupid.

I will truly never understand why people ask so many questions about faulty pregnancy tests and/or doing them wrong.

Like just go buy some more. It's not like there's a limited supply.

Apparently I'm the only one rolling my eyes at this whole thread. I mean congrats and all that it worked out, but did you really need to make a whole thread about it?

The answer is ALWAYS gonna be to pee on another test. I just feel this was a roundabout way of asking if you could still be pregnant. And that's not okay to me. #sorrynotsorry
