Do you like your job? If not, what do you wish you were doing?
SAHMs, do you enjoy staying home? Is it something you plan to do just while the kids are little, or are you SAH for the foreseeable future? What did you do before staying home with your child(ren)?
I used to manage group homes for adults with developmental disabilities and it was the best job I have ever had. It was amazing and I absolutely loved it. Stressful as fuck, but I loved it.
Now I'm a housewife and I go between being okay with it and hating it. I hope to go back to work at some point, but it's in the far distant future when things are more stable, hopefully after I have a kid in school.
Sahm here. Worked in retail prior to DD. I will always be a sahm now. We really couldn't see it any other way. As long as DH is making enough for me not to work then that's how it will be
I work in the banking world providing structured finance, primarily to high tech and venture backed companies. I've been doing it for 8+ (at what point can I start saying "nearly 10?) years and am great at what I do.
I don't love it, but I can't think of anything else I'd rather be doing, and definitely not anything that would come close in terms of salary.

I am currently a library technician at a medical hospital/school. I mainly work with the database/cataloger librarian as well as spending some time out at the reference desk. I have no complaints about the job, but I want to go back to working in youth services or doing collection development for the youth collections.

I'm a nurse. I worked in the neurology critical care unit before my loss, after I just wanted a less stressful place.. So now I'm technically on postpartum, but I work the nursery and pedi too. I'm in school to become a nurse practitioner, and I'll finish next August. I love being a nurse, but hate working 12's and weekends.

I work in HR, specifically benefits. I'm meh about it, but I think a lot of it is just being burned out from long commutes. I would kill to telework, even if just for part of the week.
I'm a SAHM. Prior to that I was the Director of Financial Aid at a private college.
The plan was to SAH until all kids were in school, but IDK. Some days I love being home and others I don't. I'm always anxious that I'm not doing enough with DS to advance him intellectually. I'm sure learning wise he would be doing a lot more at a DC, but everyone keeps telling me that I'm lucky to SAH and that he will learn things all the same.
I would love to go back after baby two turns a year and is weaned, but what I was making coupled with DC costs just doesn't make a lot of sense. I would need to find a job that paid more.

Yes! My jobs have typically been far suburbs and my commute times, at the longest, was 2 hrs in the evenings to get home. Long commutes are a definite cause for burning out. And supposedly bad for your marriage. My current job is better at about 40-50 min but DH has almost a 2 hr one now. I hardly see the guy.

I am working in Finance as a Sr Analyst. Mostly technical stuff, finance is not my strong suit. My pay is excellent (& much more than DH) so I can't justify SAH
My current company and coworkers are pretty awesome so I'm happy for now. Maybe after 2 yrs I'll decided what is my next move.

I stayed at home with DD until she was 18 months old. Now I work for a credit union and I love it. It has nothing to do with my degree (Communications-Journalism), but I love the company and our members.
After my maternity leave is over, I would only have two more months at this job until my husband will be stationed elsewhere and we move. So I likely will be SAH again until we get settled at the next place.

Elementary school teacher. My school is in hot water bc well the NY government says so (eye roll) so it's been stressful. I work in a very needy district, but most of the kids are great. I teach 4th but my heart is in early childhood and I hope to be back to PreK or K in the next few years.
Some days I love being a teacher and other days I want just sit at a desk and work at a computer. I love it more days than I don't though.
I just quit my job!!! It was too far away from my special doctors so H and I moved 3 hours to the city & he's got a great job now. I'm working a temporary job in my previous field now but I dislike it as much as always so as soon as we're confident this baby is sticky I am going to open up a small home daycare. I love little ones & I hope to be a SAHM and do homeschooling too!
I'm an advanced practice nurse. More specifically, I am the type of APN know one ever hears about. I am a Clinical Nurse Specialist. I work in the Neonatal ICU teaching nurses how to take care of the itty bitty babies, teaching parents how to handle their premature or term babies. I take care of the sickest babies and I take care of healthy babies. I write policies, I educate, I problem-solve, I plan...I feel like Olivia Pope on Scandal. I absolutely LOVE my job. I chose CNS over Nurse Practitioner because not only because I like working doing different things everyday, but also because I work M-F, no weekends, no holidays AND my hours are relatively flexible as long as I get my 40 hours in during the week. Like today I worked 11 hours, and Monday was a long day too. So this Friday I'll leave around noon!
I do hope to go down to 32hr weeks in about 18-20 months. But it will depend on many factors. I feel like a 4 day week would be perfect.
babycaps, your job sounds so rewarding. You get to help families at some of their scariest moments. It wasn't a NICU situation, but my brother had spinal meningitis as an infant and was hospitalized for some time & my Mom is still close with/in touch with the healthcare providers who helped her through that.
I am a corporate meeting/event planner but I've been out of work since mid-March. I like it most of the time, some clients are more difficult than others. My favorite part is the research that goes into where to have an event and what off site activities are available for my clients.
I'm a part time primary music teacher at a private catholic school. I love it but I do wish it was full time. Especially with being on a private school's pay scale, I have to do other things to make up the difference. It would be nice to do only one thing.

I am a district Instructional Specialist/Coach in the Elementary Curriculum department. This is my first year out of the classroom (I taught Kindergarten for 9 years). I love love love my job although I do miss the classroom.

I used to be a high school assistant principal. When we started down the ivf road and had our first loss, I quit to focus on my health and ivf. This is my second semester as a stay at home wife. I loved my job but I think this was a necessity for me. I hope to be a stay at home mom.

What do you do for a living? I work part time in genetics testing. (Amniotic Fluid and CVS samples come to me for prenatal testing and I do testing for adults and kids too.)
Do you like your job? If not, what do you wish you were doing? I get to shed some light on issues for people having some really tough problems. It also allows me to work part time to be home with my kid a lot. Homeschooling my kids would be my dream job.
SAHMs, do you enjoy staying home? Is it something you plan to do just while the kids are little, or are you SAH for the foreseeable future? What did you do before staying home with your child(ren)? I used to work full time. Part time is great, but when my husband gets his PhD and a better job I'll be staying at home to homeschool our kids. My DH was homeschooled so my MIL will help me.
I'm a college professor. I love my job 90% of the time. The pay isn't as good as I would like, so I'm thinking about cross training into biostatistics or genetics or something else than can get me on to a medical school faculty.
I'm a secretary in the construction management field. I love "helping" build things so I do enjoy the work. My office is super flexible and the people are great! I'll retire from here someday. A cool fact is I had DD in the hospital I "helped" build, planning on having 2.0 there as well
I'm a private practice psychologist. I currently work in a group practice but my best friend from grad school and I are starting up our own. It's growing and it's time for me to quit the group but it's a scary thing to do when you're pregnant, raising a 17 month old and need all the money. I truly love what I do which makes it worth it. It gives me the flexibility to stay at home with DD during the day and work at night, which is when all my clients need their appointments anyway. I have no idea what we're going to do when there are two kids though. We have time, right? Right?

Starting your own practice sounds exciting/stressful/whatever, but exciting! Good luck!
I'm a policy chief for a federal agency, specializing in Homeland Security grants policy. I've been in this field, but different jobs, for almost 12 years now. I like it. I like the mission of the office, I like the people I work with. Mostly, I do like working and do not think I would be a very good SAHM.
I am a technology teacher at the local public library. I teach intro level computer courses, some more 'advanced' computer courses, do tech support for patrons and staff, and attempt computer maintenance.
Most of the time I love my job. But I really wish I could work from home. I also do freelance writing and would enjoy making that more of a focus of my work.
I originally wanted to be a social studies teacher. But the job market for teachers in my area was horrible. This was the closest to a teaching job I could find and I actually like it. Bonuses are that I don't have to deal with students/parents, no school board, no observations, no grading, etc.
