N has been MISERABLE. His back used to be his go to position. He loved diaper changes and would just lay there and converse with us forever. Now he hates every position. He is always crying. After some major freak outs that scared me, I took him to the doctor and he agreed it sounded like reflux. So now I am attempting to give him Zantac 2x a day, which is nearly impossible. If I can even manage to get the syringe in his mouth and squirt, he will cough the majority of it right out. And it's a tiny amount to begin with, so I feel like he's not even getting anything.
He's also been waking up much earlier which sucks enough one its own, but that coupled with a baby that is just miserable while awake, really really blows!!!
Anyone else use Zantac? How long until you noticed any change?
My first had horrible reflux and was on Zantac until he was a year old. We noticed a difference in about a week.
I ended up getting one of these to give a baby medicine, I found the syringe just didn't work since they don't know how to "eat" yet and struggle to take the medicine. Even if your baby doesn't take a binky (both of mine didn't), they still would use this dispenser just fine.

We tried Zantac, but I couldn't get J to take it for the life of me... the flavor is so bad, even when it's flavored. We ended up switching to Omerprazole, which I believe is Prilosec, and that has gone SO much better, as it actually comes strawberry flavored, and J actually doesn't seem to mind it. We also use the pacifier dispenser (Numimed), and it works great and I feel more comfortable that he can swallow it at his own/controlled pace. I also say a noticeable difference in about a week.

All of this. We had much more success with Omeprazole with my first. It helped a ton! I hope you get it figured out quickly...it's awful when they're on pain and there's nothing you can do!
M is taking zantac, 0.8 ml 2x a day and I saw a huge difference after about 3-4 days.
He was exhibiting his old screaming/refusing to eat today but that's bc I think he spit up 20 min after giving the medicine.
I wonder how long it has to be in their system to get absorbed before spitting it up?
We were told that the optimal time for administering is 20-30 minutes before a feeding... however this is with Prilosec not Zantac, so I'm not sure if that makes a difference or not...?

We are giving 0.7 three times a day. She wasn't bothered by the spitting up, but since it was so frequent (upwards of 20x a day some days) her pedi wanted to protect her esophagus.
The best way I've found to give it is to have her lying down and squirt a tiny bit into the side of her cheek, give her a few seconds to swallow, then squirt a little in the other cheek pocket. Takes about 4 or 5 squirts but she keeps much more if it down.
I use this little mini bottle medicine dispenser from toys r us. It's the only way I can get Iily to take her prilosec. Do a search in the group. There was a thread I started a while back about reflux and I think there was some good info in it. Hang in there momma! Reflux fucking sucks.

I'm trying to give it to him first thing in the morning. Waiting those 30 minutes are tough though. Sometimes he ends up spitting it out. I need to get one of the pacifier medicine dispensers...
We are doing 0.8 3x daily.... It is based on weight. We are actually calling Monday to get an updated dose because after being on the meds for a week she gained over a half a pound. ?
junch817, my doctor is a conservative asshole. Need to Call her to up his dosage because it's getting less effective.

I could never wait 30 minutes for the first feeding after giving the medicine, so I gave it right before his first nap. That way it's still 30 minutes at least before he eats.

We've been doing the syringe for Zantac since DS was 2wks. The LPN told us it's a nasty menthol flavor that most hate to take. We started by gently blowing in his face to make him swallow then give the pacifier to encourage sucking. After a few weeks of that he actually likes it and we can give it to him in his sleep. It certainly helps.

So what the flying fuck, doctor?! M is close to 14 lbs and is getting only 0.8 2x a day. She's gonna send me to a pediatric GI before upping his dose herself.
I should just take him to the gastroenterologist right? The zantac is definitely helping just not as much as initially

amber311, I tried the medicine dispenser, he barely sucked half out. He enjoyed this pacifier, courtesy of grandpa. Hope it works!

I do the blowing thing and he just stops to catch his breath but refuses to swallow still. It is a huge screaming battle every time and he still spits a bit out. It takes forever. The morning is worse because it's just me trying to get him to take it. At night my husband can try to help.
