I was feeling really guilty about taking a sick day (I very rarely do).  I had a fever last night but woke up without one so I thought I was just being a wimp...but now I have a fever again.

I always feel guilty calling out even when I'm actually sick too. Hope your fever goes away again soon!!

I'm still trying to get back into the swing of things. Coming back to work after a vacation sucks.

Agree, LadyNymeria. I feel like the amount of work it takes to get caught up from taking a vacation completely negates the all the stress relief I felt while taking said vacation.

As for me... just a pile of adult things that need to get done today. Dry cleaning, paying bills, figuring out how to get a passport for DD this weekend, wrangling finances for the down payment on our new house.

I'm just here dealing with a cranky toddler and a dog that rolled in a dead skunk. Plus, I'm working nights tonight and, in addition to no longer STTN, DS doesn't believe much in naps anymore. So there's that.

Today I'm just working with a side of Thai food. Going to meet a gf for lunch. She's one of the few friends that I've confided in about TTC and it's always nice to speak freely with her. And I love Thai Food!!!! Nom Nom.

The Pope arrives in DC today! DH and I were going to try to see him in the parade tomorrow, but we are having second thoughts. It is going to be insanity and the actual parade route is pretty limited, so I don't know if we would be able to see anything. I am so torn.

It was amazing!!!! Wish I was still there!! Perfect weather all week, lots of time on the beach, and delicious dinners every night - it was wonderful and much needed!!

I would be torn too! With big events I always feel like in theory it seems fun to be a part of it. But in reality it is just a crowded, bathroomless, cluster fuck.

This is what I am afraid of.  The security opens at 4am and once you are in there you can't leave until after the parade which starts at 11am.  To get a good spot we likely would have to be there at the opening, but then we are standing there for hours.  But its the Pope and he is in my city.  I'm taking the day to mull it over.

Morning!

I feel fancy today - we have visitors from both parent companies on-site this week, so I wore a skirt and boots and a cute top instead of my regular jeans and sweater/shirt/jacket/whatever-is-clean.

I know one person IRL on here, though she doesn't hang out on here much anymore.

It's tired with a side of needing to get my ass in gear and clean the house.

My mom is coming this weekend and we still have our canning stuff out and I have to clean the guest room and bathroom. Also pick up the house and dust, vacuum and mop.

Once I/we start it won't be that bad (besides the bathroom(s)) due to iron issues that I need to convince the in-laws is due to the water softener not working correctly. Hence, a few days after cleaning the shower it is orange again....so I hate cleaning it.

I feel guilty as a teacher. Losing class time and what not since sometimes you don't have time to prep a decent sick day activity that goes with your unit (versus a personal day when you have time to prepare something decent).

Any other profession I wouldn't. At all.

Amusing story for today - Last week I called around to a couple of local carpet cleaners to see if I could get squeezed in this week because otherwise the stain/wear warranty on our carpet is voided. One place never answered their phone (their loss, I guess?).

Another place I talked to for a few minutes, we talked about available dates, I told her which I'd prefer but made it very clear I needed a quote first and I had a few other questions. She said she'd call me back later that day with a quote and the answers to my questions. I very specifically said that the appointment was tentative until I got the quote and an answer to my questions.

In the meantime I talked to another company that gave me a great price and even managed to re-arrange a few things to get me on their schedule despite the fact that they were booked up (I didn't bump anyone, he said they just had a staff meeting or something at that time but he'd reschedule it). They're highly rated in Angie's list, too.

Cool, awesome, love it. I went ahead and booked with him, thinking that when the other place called back I'd just let them know that I'd found someone else, thank you so much goodbye.

Except they never called back. So I figured they forgot about me, no big deal.

Until this morning. When they finally called me back. Not to give me the quote, mind you. But to tell me that their team was running late today and would be there closer to 10 rather than at 9am. In my confusion, I told her the appointment was tomorrow. She insisted it was today. I finally realized who I was talking to and told her she'd never called me back with my quote.

She was very apologetic and let me know it would be $250 ($100 more than the other company, btw). Ok... So I let her know that since she hadn't called me back with the quote and to confirm the tentative appointment we'd made, I went with someone else.

She was super nice about it, but I still feel like an ass for not calling them back and telling them straight up that I was going with someone else and don't worry about getting me the quote.

I only feel guilty when I take a sick day when I know I'd probably feel fine after another hour or two of sleep and a hot shower.

I gave up on feeling guilty when I had the boss from hell for years who expected us to always be available and respond to all calls and emails within an hour while we were out of office.
