I would definitely lean towards teething and ear infection pain affecting his desire for the bottle. Both of those things can make sucking on a bottle uncomfortable. 9 months sounds a bit early to go down to 1 bottle in a 9hr period, but maybe that's just me. Do you feel like he is reverse cycling? I say if he's nursing fine then I wouldn't worry about a few missed oz at daycare, especially if it's only been 2 days. If it were more of a habit that would be a different story. Hope you LO feels better!
I wouldn't do anything drastic with one bad day of bottles. DS did something similar when he was on ammoxicilin, but wound up being allergic. He wasn't eating to drinking his bottles, just nursing like a fiend when we were together. He developed a rash from head to toe on the 8th day of ammoxicilin and apparently he is allergic.
If it persists, I would toss the bottles. He's old enough for a cup and it might be an easy transition. DS was off bottles by 10 months and drinks BM from a straw cup at DC
Jumping in here - sorry for the post from a random stranger. I just found this board and I really like it so far. I've been a March 14 regular for a while and I'm a working mom who is breastfeeding a 10 month old.
I've had a similar experience with J and refusing bottles. Every time something is going on that affects his ears/mouth/nose he gets fussy about taking bottles. Even on his best days he's only taking 8-9 oz during daycare hours (he's a reverse cycler too). On top of all of that, his teachers think that he's weening himself off bottles.
