Hi,
I know we have had discussions about dogs and kids on here before. rondackhiker or anyone else have any suggestions?
Since LO has become more mobile, one of our dogs is getting more anxious. They are never alone together and I try to keep them separated. He is a small yorkie-poodle mix. He was initially great around LO, he would often lay right next to him/snuggle. However, LO now tries to "pat" him. I have caught him grabbing ears/face before. I'm always right there, so I don't think he's actually hurt the dog, just scared hime. Initially, the dog would just hold still and I would get LO to let go. We would then do "nice pats" to try to teach LO (I know this will take awhile). At that time, the dog didn't seem to mind. However, now the dog is more anxious around him. If LO is moving/awake, he tries to stay away. He will still lay/sit near him if he is calm or sleeping. This week though, when the dog has been lying on the couch, LO will reach toward him and he will snap. He then moves away to another portion of the couch. I know this is a warning and I do not want it to progress to a bite in the future. Any suggestions on how to help with this? Do I just keep them completely separated until LO is gentler? Our other dog, a puggle, is completely unfazed by LO. Thanks for any advice.
