Oh we had like 80 people RSVP and only like 50 or so showed up. Only one person called us and said she was stuck somewhere (her car broke down). The rest just didn't show.

But still - while I wish I could have billed them, this is still rude.

But sorry, if you have a child free wedding this is bound to happen. Not to mention you should ALWAYS plan for no shows. That's life. People get sick, babysitters can't make it, some people are just assholes.

Last thing people need to be worried about in the days leading up to a wedding is fielding phone calls for last minute cancellations.



Basically this bitch wanted her present and didn't get it, so she tried another method. That makes her a cunt because it's a gift grabby move. Not that she knows anything about etiquette in the first place obviously, but guests have 6 months to a year to send a wedding gift (a month or two is preferred). That amount of time had not passed. I guess if you want to guarantee the end of a friendship, this is on solid way to do it.

YES. Besides, if you cancel the day of or a few days before, it's not like the couple can change the number of they've given the caterer and save that money.

I want to know who this bride was to the guest. I would never send a bill for no-shows but I can't ever imagine sending a bill to someone I'm close to.

I think if I had to cancel at the last minute, I would still send a card in the mail. But if I got a bill... nope sorry.

I think we had 3 no-shows, and none of them had children. I have never mentioned a word of it to them, nor complained about it to anyone else. It happens. Our plates certainly weren't $30, but there was no getting that money back anyway.

The guest in question here should have sent a message or called the bride/groom afterword (not that day!) to explain her absence, but the gracious bride and groom should have been understanding, not money-hungry.

In no world is this okay.

We spent $12/plate at my wedding. You could possibly up it to $15/plate if you consider the cost of the disposal plates and cutlery.

To me, this depends on how close the guest was to the couple.

Good friend/best friend/immediate family member? For sure. If I were the couple I'd be wondering if something had happened, etc.

Great Aunt Millie who I've met three times in my whole life and who only ended up invited because grandma pitched a fit? *shrug* Not really expecting to hear from that person.

I had a wedding I couldn't attend and called the mother of the bride last minute to let her know. She was grateful and actually had a few people have plans change and could make it so she was able to give my spot and +1 to them. I still sent the gift I had already bought.
If she had sent me a bill I would have been pissed. Things come up and this is so money grabby to me.

We had 10 "no shows at our wedding". When considering meal, 2 drinks per guest was prepaid (the rest owing after), linens, chair rentals, cake cutting fees, we had nearly 800$ worth of payments for people who hadn't shown. A few of them had sent cards with presentation, and a few of them had missed for legitimate reasons but i was fumed by the sketchy no shows who didnt even reach out to say congratulations or mentioned why they missed out.

Despite the extra costs I couldnt have ever imagined sending out bills, super klassy.

This just popped up in my news feed on FB, and the person who shared it wrote "I should do this to the 18 people who no-showed to my wedding, maybe I could get some of my money back" (she got married this summer). Exactly! It is not up to your guests to make sure they are there with a gift covering the cost of the linens or bar selection you chose. Like we've all said, of course no showing to a wedding is rude. But some people do not seem to understand that every guests life does not revolve around their wedding. Shit happens.

I had quite a few no shows but only one that made me ragey. One of my cousins texted me day of saying she was bring her kid to our no kid wedding because my flowers girls were going to be there and "it was only fair that her kid could come too". I said no because we didn't have a meal or place planned for the kid and didn't want other people getting upset that we allowed one. So she didn't show. Whatever. But then her parents and siblings also didn't show just because they were mad. The reasoning just seemed insensitive and tacky to me so I was ragey. But I would never send her a bill or even bring it up to her.

Yeah, that bill would go back to the sender with a big "Fuck You" written right over the total. We had no shows at our wedding. Did it suck? Yeah. Would it have made a difference in cost had they let us know even a week ahead of time? No.

I'm with majority of y'all on this. I can't tell you how many no-shows we had. But I sure as hell didn't bill any of them, and never brought it up to them either. And I'd be done with whatever kind of relationship I had with the bride and groom if they did that to me.
