Ok, I started with young toddlers/big infants. So erm, what exactly fits a newborn? I get their diapers are probably easier to wash, I have a wash pattern figured that works provided the new kid won't be enzyme reactive.
I like bamboo and hemp. Do I need some newborn before going to infant prefolds/flats? Best covers? Since I'm lazy if baby will outgrow whatever I make sooner than not. How do you get the Snappi things to work? Those never made sense and I used diaper pins.
I like using GMD NB prefolds and their OS flats for those first few weeks. Not as bulky as a Bummis Infant prefold would be. They also sell half flats now that I have waiting to try on DD. The only hemp I used at the beginning were Hemp Babies doublers over a GMD small prefold when DS started sleeping for more than 2 hours at a time.
I'm a fan of Blueberry Mini-Coveralls and Best Bottoms. I also have a Bummis Super Brite NB that was nice but DS grew out of the rise really quick.
I think Snappis are pretty easy. Attach to one side, stretch to the other, then secure the middle. If it's not as tight as you want it, readjust the first side just a little more.
We used osocozy better fit newborn prefolds with thirsties xs covers. Work great, better than any AIO we tried. I like the better fit better than gmd because there wasn't any extra I had to fold in the front or back since they are cut a bit smaller. Snappis were useless to me, I just trifolded and put the prefold in the cover. They were just an extra step and they didn't help anything.

Yeah, but then I have to mess around again. Plus buy another detergent, then remember to use the right one.
Granted, I wash the diapers all kinds of wrong (Tide F&C liquid - girls couldn't handle dye or fragrance, water is hard and doesn't play nice with powder) but they were clean so I said fine.
If the detergent works for you then it's not the wrong detergent!
Get out of here with your laundry logic!
Yeah, you can't use logic when washing cloth diapers. It was a fun experience, no matter what I used, someone said it was wrong. Apparently I'm supposed to use voodoo and spit from camels.
I did NB AIOs and prefolds. If I had to go back in time, I think I would've done workhorses with covers. I'm a prefold mess and the AIOS were too pricey and fit her for 3 weeks.

Well this is how I wash mine, so if you do it differently you're clearly wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong!

Well, sorry to you. I can't find a reliable source of camel spit. Voodoo and napalm I can get.
So I just used Tide Free & Clear liquid. So there.

I really liked the Bummis cloth diaper starter kit. It comes with a bunch of prefolds, some covers, some liners (which I didn't actually start using until recently), and a few other little samples. I also ordered a pack of Snappis separately, and I found them pretty easy to use. I also got a few GMD newborn prefolds just to make sure I had plenty.
I wash with the controversial Charlie's Soap. No problems so far.
