Hey all! It's been so quiet on the board! Not so much in our homes I assume with the chatty toddlers ?
I'm curious...how clearly do your 2 year olds talk? I can definitely understand a lot of what DD says but a lot of her words are very hard to decipher. Some of her pronunciation makes no sense.
Truck = guck Potty and daddy sound exactly the same Juice = Duce
I know not to expect perfection of course, but I'm just wondering if she needs speech therapy or just more time to get the sounds down.
Sounds pretty normal to me (but obviously keep an eye on it and look for it to improve as she gets older). My pedi said we should expect half of his speech to be understood by strangers. Which sounds about right for us (although DH and I inderstand most of it).

Sounds like DD as well. Some words are clear as day, others we have no idea. She is slowing getting better though, so we aren't concerned. Words that she couldn't pronounce a month ago are a lot more clear now. And fortunately, the words "fork" and "sit" no longer sound like cuss words... lol.
My DD is one of the farthest behind verbally in her daycare class, and only recently started saying a lot of things. Our Pedi said 2-3yo is when they really improve on pronunciation versus volume of vocabulary. I understand some things, but sometimes I just smile and say "yes dear". I love toddler speak! Some of my favorites:
Socks= Cocks Sit= Shit Airplane= E-Peen Ball or any Round Object= Kick-a-Ball Cheese= Chee More= Mo Mo
Ok great. I just didn't want to be thinking it was just normal progression when she's actually behind. Thanks for putting my mind at ease ladies!
I love her language until bedtime when she's insisting on something (a specific story, specific song, drink, anybody's guess) and I can't figure it out! So many tantrums end our days because Mommy just doesn't understand!

Agree with others that your DD is on track! Mine is exceptionally articulate, which I am grateful for every day. But her big brother barely talked and was really hard to understand at this stage. They are all so different!
I'd say things sound pretty normal. I think we can understand most of what she says but not everyone else can. I'm also in the repeat it back the with the correct pronunciation as well. Sometimes she changes what she says and repeats me correctly, and other times she tells me no I'm wrong and continues to say it her way.
Most of what mine say is clear. Some things sound exactly like other things and I have to decipher what they want. People who have visited can pretty much figure out what they are saying most of the time. I'm pretty grateful for how well they speak.
