Did your IUI hurt? And a question about sperm...

Slow day here so I'll just create my own thread apologies in advance for being a PW.

1. So, I'm getting my first IUI - if you've had an IUI, did you find it painful? I found my HSG really painful, but luckily it was quick.  I'm just wondering what to expect.

2. Did your RE's office have any extra precautions to ensure you were being inseminated with the correct sperm? I have an irrational fear that my sucky RE's office might screw this up and I'll get some random person's sperm.

I've had a total of 7 IUIs done (2 back to backs) and most have been pretty painless. The worst one was at my old RE and the nurse couldn't get through my cervix and I had to pee really bad. My RE now is amazing and he's done before I even realize it. In my experience, it's less painful than a PAP.

I had the same fear as you before my first one about mixing up sperm but they double/triple check every step of the way. They confirm name and birthday before giving H the container, make him sign off on the labels, ask me my birthday and I have to verify that all our paperwork and signed labels match.

I've had two IUIs. The first one was kinda painful, but I felt like the nurse was being really rough with me. I had a different nurse the second time around and I didn't feel a thing.

I had two IUIs. Neither hurt at all. As for sperm, our RE double checked my H's ID before he did his thing, labeled the container with a label with his name on it. It was then double checked both by the nurse and me, then the RE and me before insemination.

1. I didn't think it hurt much. The most uncomfortable part was the speculum going in without any kind of lubrication. After the speculum went in, it was over in about 2 minutes.

2. When MH went to give his sample, he had to show his driver's license when checking in, then again after he completed the sample-making. He also had to sign a label that gets stuck on the vial. When it came time for the IUI, the nurse checked the identity of the label, and had me verbally say whose sperm was going to be inseminating me, and verify that the signature was his on the label.

No, no pain at all. My HSG hurt like a wretched bitch, but IUI is literally no big deal. Speculum, injection, speculum removal. It's over in two minutes. Literally. My doctor wanted me to lie there for ten minutes afterwards. Apparently I was supposed to meditate on conception or sumshit.

2. Did your RE's office have any extra precautions to ensure you were being inseminated with the correct sperm? I have an irrational fear that my sucky RE's office might screw this up and I'll get some random person's sperm.

The sperm vial had my name and my husband's name on it as well as our dates of birth. I had to triple check and sign some papers.

I hope you don't mind me responding.

1) I had b2b IUIs which I was so surprised didn't hurt at all after my terrible HSG experiences. My first HSG the radiologist was an idiot and couldn't get through my cervix, so just stabbed it, sent me to get manually dilated by my RE (who said I don't know why she is having a problem), then still just stabbed my cervix again to no success. The second HSG was much better, but still a little painful. The IUI was more like a pap than anything else. I think knowing that our REs specialize in this and do it daily, they really are pros.

2) my DH was really worried about this after the fact. My IUIs were done within 30 mins of semen drop off to the in house lab. My DH had to sign a release when dropping it off. Before they were done, my RE would show me the name & birthday on the sterilized package. Honestly, that was enough for me, but it bothered DH. I don't know of anything to ease your mind, but know that the thought crossed our minds too.

GL! I've had many IUIs and I consider them uncomfortable but not painful. The worst part for me is the damn speculum, but it's more mental than anything else for me personally.
My clinic is very fastidious about checking samples, and they only do one person at a time so that helps.

I'll be thinking good thoughts for you!

ETA: fuck HSGs. I never want to do that again. I'm pretty sure birth will be less painful.

Thanks for asking this requiressnacks! I'm terrified of the pain from IUI bc my mirena was horrific and my HSG was painful (of course, thankfully quick). I've not been looking forward to another procedure that gets up in there...I feel much better now!

I've had 3 IUIs. I have a tilted ute (what's it called? Retroverted?). Anyway, it makes it hard to thread through my cervix into my ute. Each time they do it, they get better, but it's always pretty painful for me. I hear that if your ute is where it's supposed to be, it's not bad at all.

As far as the sample, like others said, H has to verify who he is, write his name on the collection cup, and they ask me to verify the vial before insemination.

I'll be the odd one out and say yes, my IUI hurt. That said, the nurse couldn't find my opening to my cervix at first, and had to apply some extra pressure to open it up. I also don't do well with speculums at all - even paps are painful for me.

As far as security for the sperm, we both had to sign waivers before. Then I had to sign to verify that what they had was his name, signature, and date of birth before she could do the insemination. She did this literally right before putting it in so there was no mixing it up or anything after I verified it. They're super careful about that kind of stuff so I wouldn't worry about mixing up sperm.

1. My HSG hurt like a bitch but my IUI was nothing. A bit of cramping after but that is it.
2. H took his sample to his urologist who washed it and then I kept it in my bra as we drove to my doctor's. I handed it to the nurse who took it straight to the room where the doc was setting up. I don't think they have samples sitting around in the same area to mix up. I verified my info and his before they out it in.

1. I had my first IUI last cycle. It wasn't bad. There was a bit of cramping when they inserted the catheter. The HSG was much worse.

2. DH gave his sample upstairs. He gave it and then walked it out and watched them label and color code it. We then had to wait 90 minutes. After waiting we went back upstairs and got his sample. He was asked to confirm that his was RED, which is the color they coded him with. We then had to carry the sample ourselves down to the RE office.

My IUI hurt a bit- just one cramp when the RE went through my cervix, but it was over by the time I said OW.

We actually had a special supervisor to make sure H's sample didn't get accidentally mixed up. In our case it's highly recommended by our religious authorities any time sperm, eggs, or embryos are being processed for assisted reproduction. So we hired a woman from a Jewish organization (The Puah institute) and it was her job to keep her eyes on H's sample from the moment it left our hands, throughout the washing procedure, until it was passed to my RE for my insemination. They also have a special seal that they put on the vials for any time the sample isn't being constantly watched, and only the Puah supervisor or the RE in front of me are allowed to remove the seal.

The clinic still had us check and verify the name on the label before it was put on H's sample and again on the vial of the washed sample.

I was told to stay lying down for 5 minutes after. 
I put my legs in the air and thought of you guys and laughed.
