My doctor wanted me to lie there for ten minutes afterwards. Apparently I was supposed to meditate on conception or sumshit.
I was told to stay lying down for 5 minutes after. I put my legs in the air and thought of you guys and laughed.
I had to lay there for 20 minutes which seemed like major overkill. And the nurse didn't bother to cover up my lady bits when she left so I made DH tuck me in. And then we watched 20 minutes of BatDad videos on YouTube.

Mine hurt a bit. I bled some for the next day as well, but my cervix is a little bitch. They had me lie down for 15 minutes after and we watched John Oliver during that time because I read once that laughing helps move the sperm up and I was desperate enough to try it.
We still joke about them potentially mixing up the vials, but she did a triple check before using it so I'm pretty confident E is DH's kid.

I've had 3 IUIs. They were a little crampy/uncomfortable. More intense than a period cramp, but not as bad as the HSG. Once they take the catheter out, the pain stops immediately. It's a pretty quick procedure all in all.
My RE confirms our names and birthdays and shows me the container I wrote our names on.

Good point. I forgot to mention the bleeding. I always bleed for about 1.5-2 days afterwards.
My husband has to go to the doctor around 7am and then I go in around 10am when they're done processing the sample. He's long at work once they're ready for me. And I'm not getting up to go with him. Haha.
It never occurred to me to ask him to stay until I saw couples walking out of their IUIs together.

Mine was. I made him stay. I know some people who didn't have their husbands in the room (or even in the same country in one particular case).

I don't know what everyone does, but mine won't be. He will go at 8:00a.m. to produce the sample and then I arrive around 11:00 a.m. to get the IUI done.

Mine wasn't.
I came to the clinic with him for 7am (I carried his sample in my arm pit to keep it warm). We dropped it off and I had to do BW and US, then I had about an hour wait so I sent H off to go about his day.
IUIs at my clinic are first-come-first-serve during morning monitoring, so it was our choice to get there first thing.

1. My first IUI was a little uncomfortable. It was with my OB and he had a hard time getting the catheter through my cervix. My other 3 UIUs were with RE #1 and he never had much of an issue getting the catheter in.
2. Everything is labeled and we had to verify that the names were correct on the specimen before insemination.
TTC #1 since August 2011 DH (32): SA is ok, slightly low morph, normal SCSA Me (32): Slightly low P4, hostile CM, carrier for CF, high NKC, High TNFa, heterozyogous mutated Factor XIII, and +APA October 2012-August 2015: 4 failed IUIs, 3 failed IVFs, 2 failed FETs w/donor embryos, 1 freeze all IVF, 1 Failed FET, and 1 cancelled FET November 2015: FET w/ DEm #3 Transferred 1 perfect 6AA blast
My IUI hurt like a bitch. Like, made me re-think med-free childbirth. The pain was less than 30 seconds likely but I couldn't move, so that made it worse. I think I have a normal pain tolerance though, so I don't know what was up with that.
My HSG didn't hurt one bit. I felt NOTHING. For realz. So I have a feeling they had an issue with the catheter for my IUI and I have a "sensitive" cervix. My IUD hurt like a bitch going in too and I fainted. Whoops.
As for the sperm. I know DH had to show his license and sign the label, but I legit don't remember verifying his identity. I'm sure I did, but I was wicked nervous for the IUI so I probably blocked it from my memory.

Mine came with me both times, but they fell on the weekend or when we were on our way out of town. Both times we both went to the office for his appointment (not that I helped or anything), then went out for breakfast, then went back for the IUI. They let him come back with me, and it was nice having him here. Not that they worked, but it made it feel special.
I would say my HSG was a 8/10 on a pain scale and my IUIs (I've had 4) have been a 2-3/10. They are uncomfortable but generally have not been painful. I've had 3 different people do the IUIs and #4 was a little difficult because the RE had some difficulties and ended up using an ultrasound to guide the catheter in. He mentioned something about having to go in at a 90 degree angle for me. I know I have a retroverted uterus, so maybe that has something to do with it.
As far as identifying the sperm, DH does his collection at home since we live close to the clinic and he fills out his name and DOB on the cup provided. Then immediately before my IUI, they bring me the labeled post-wash sample with both my name and his and I sign paperwork stating that I was shown the proper sample, etc.

Mine stayed. I told him he didn't have to tho. He had to give his sample at 7:00am. We went and got breakfast and went back for the IUI. I'm glad he stayed. It's not exactly glamorous or fun so I'm glad I had him to take my mind off of things.

Out of all my IUIs, H has only been with me for one which was the last one. My RE does back to back IUIs and the second one fell on a Saturday. So he provided his sample, we got breakfast then he went back with me for the procedure. I wanted him there just so he could see what it was like.

H wasn't there for my IUIs, but he was definitely there for my ER.

J has been at all but one of my IUIs. I like having her there to hold my hand and talk with me after it's done and laying around.
I know it's different for us bc we can both show up with the cryotank and wait around for the vial to thaw, not going in at different times is nice. I will say my mom thought it was weird that we insisted on going together as much as possible. When she did her IUIs in the 80s my dad never stayed for the actual IUI.

Are you allowed to take pain meds before your IUI, or is that a no-no? I took 4 Advils each before my HSG and SHG and didn't feel much.
No and there's really no need, IMO. You can take Tylenol, but not Advil/ibuprofen, after the IUI if necessary. The discomfort is very short lived, though. I only had very mild cramping afterwards.

I think a pap is worse than an IUI. My cervix likes to play hide and seek but this time it was right where it is supposed to be. I felt the speculum and the catheter but it wasn't painful. The HSG was the worse experience ever and I seriously considered stopping everything after that experience.
Before the appointment the nurse called to verify the number. The day of, the nurse showed me the vial and the paperwork that came with it to reverify.

Fingers crossed this is your BFP
I know I am late to the party, but I heard, and tried, and it seemed to work, that if you have a full bladder it makes it easier for the little tube to slide in. But keep in mind that most REs do make you lay there for at least 10 min after, so maybe just have a slightly full bladder, not a bursting at the seems bladder.

My nurse suggested going to the bathroom first before pretty much everything they did, including IUI's.
Worth a try if it's painful with an empty bladder though.
