Here's my baby girl! She was born at 918pm on Sat 1/3. I went in for cervidil that Fri night, found out I was 3 cm (I was 1 cm that morning at the dr), so they just started pitocin on a slow drip all night long. It didn't do anything, and I couldn't sleep cause I was excited and anxious. Dr broke my water at 6am, then things got rolling. I made it to 5cm with horrible horrible back labor before I gave in and got the epi. The back labor was terrible... No breaks from the pain! So I relaxed after that, but progressed really slowly. I ended up with a 101 fever and was so shaky and weak. I was nervous I wouldn't be able to push her out! Well, finally the time came and sure enough, I pushed her out in less than 20 min. I was pretty determined. Lol She had jaundice so we had to stay an extra night in the hospital (it was so hard to have her under the lights and not be able to cuddle her) and she had to have formula. That (along with, tmi, flat nipples) put a damper on BFing, I believe. We are still struggling with it. She screams and sometimes won't latch... When she does latch, she gets frustrated that it doesn't come out as quick as the bottle. That's definitely the biggest challenge so far. I'm trying to get an appointment with a lactation consultant, but any advice from other BFing mamas is definitely welcome!
This was longer than I intended, and I didn't proof read, so please excuse any mistakes!

Work won't let me see the pictures, but I'm sure she's a beaut. As far as the BF'ing, are you using a shield? I know the BF board was a great resource for me, so it would probably be worth a shot to check it out on here. It may be slow at first, but if you post questions, I'm sure there are some BF veterans that can offer advice and suggestions. Just remember that these fist weeks are the hardest, and it generally gets easier with time.

She's so cute! Look at that little smirk!
I'm not big help with the BFing, since we ended up having to switch to formula due to health (on my part) issues, but if you stick it out it gets easier.

Keep trying to get her to latch... the first week is really the absolute worst. It gets so much better after that. If you stimulate your nipples will they protrude more so she can latch? Also try reverse pressure and warm compressed before. The reverse pressure makes the edema decrease (from the IV fluids since you had an epi) so she can latch easier. Google reverse pressure and there are you tube videos. The warm towel compress gets things moving and the drips will encourage her to latch as there will something flowing. Last thing are you doing manual nipple placement to get her to latch? Take your index and middle finger and place them outside your areola and squeeze together making a nipple sandwich. Flip the middle finger up a bit so your nipple is pointing up then literally take the babies head mouth open and "shove" babies head to your nipple. Then drop your shoulder to thay it is relaxed. This approach is one I didn't find anywhere else but 100% worked for me after seeing a LC. Let me know if it doesn't make sense and I can email you... or if you are coming to the play date tomorrow I can help more and show you with my babe. Keep at it! She's a cutie.

What awesome tips... I'll definitely look into those. I think I can envision what you're talking about. I'm actually seeing a LC tomorrow morning. Hopefully it helps!

Congrats! What a cutie!!!
And I second everything that narbuckle01 said! Keep at it! It's so difficult and frustrating at first, but once LO gets the hang of it, you'll feel so much better!

She is beautiful. As for BF, just keep at it. It sucks at times and is harder than most people ever expect. Just know your not alone and try to relax. Having a great LC is also key and a supportive team behind you. Can't see who also posted, but previous PP had great advice as well.
Congrats she is beautiful!! And she has the best birthday (mine is Jan 3rd also). Hope breastfeeding starts going better for you (pregnant and have no advice). Enjoy this wonderful time with your little girl and don't stress too much.
