Before we had R we agreed to give only 5 gifts to our kids for Christmas. It's just a random number we came up with it it helps us not go overboard buying stuff.
For R I'm thinking train table, indoor tent of some sort, a toy Keruig we already bought. He'll get books in his stocking. On Saturday he had his first bouncy house experience and loved it. Now I want to buy one too. I think I'll give that for his birthday in Feb.
For L, it's harder because he'll be 4 months and we already have so much left over from R.
For my wife:
ETA: I have no idea what to buy my wife and aparently proboards thinks that sad! I never added that emoji
We are planning to buy William a play kitchen set as his big Christmas gift this year. We will also buy him a few books, puzzles, some PJs, etc. to give him things to open under the tree, and we will fill his stocking with a few other little doo-dads. We are trying to stick to a strict budget and not go nutso!
Dosey will hopefully still be baking for a few more weeks come Christmas time this year, so no plans on gifts from Moms, but I think our families will likely have a few little gifts for baby #2 at Christmas.
As for J, I really don't know. We are saving our pennies to hopefully buy a new house in 2016, and I also hope to trade in J's car for a minivan in the new year as well. So, the budget doesn't really allow for a big gift on top of that. We will likely fill each other's stockings with a few small thoughtful gifts and leave it at that this year. A new house and a new car in early 2016 would be FANTASTIC for both of us, so we are willing to skimp on other gifts for each other in the meantime.
The kids have been making Christmas lists for weeks. C's is prominently posted on our fridge and he revises it daily based on his searches on Amazon. G's is much more nebulous and doesn't list specific things. He is always so much harder to buy for. I don't know what is on the kids' lists at this point - but I am sure it is some combination of video games and books.
L asked for a nice work bag - like Coach or Kate Spade. She isn't a bag person at all, but has gone through a bunch of crappy Target bags at $50 a pop and would rather have one nice bag for work. I am going to try to score something at the outlets.
I might also get her mother's paintings framed. We went to do it this summer and even with the discount, they were going to be $500 so we held off. Not sure I can swing both gifts....

All of you are so organized!! I used to be that way, then I had a baby who is now a toddler and I still can't get a grip!
I am super excited to get the holiday planning and shopping underway. The extended family is crazy but I have always loved my time with M and now we get to include O too.
We also want to get C a play kitchen! I'm having a hard time deciding what kind.
I'm also in love with the canopy tents they have at Land of Nod! But they are so expensive and I don't think L will go for it. Anyone know of a good alternative?

Our kids have requested TickleMe Plant and Zombie Plant Kits for Christmas and Hannukah. With the kits our kids and my students grow a plant that will close its leaves and lower it branches when tickled...or in case of the zombie packaging (same plant) it PLAYS DEAD-my older kids like this packaging. These are great first pets too, as the plants move like animals. :)Found them less expensive online but also on Amazon.
Heres the part where I admit I didn't even really get the gf a birthday present. so ideas are welcome. A first bday together kind of gift. shes super thoughtful about gift giving and emailed a person I know only tangentially for book ideas that would remind me of a certain time period. and hammered out a copper pipe and made a bookmark out of it also stamped love. much less on to Christmas. people help! that's just one reason I have been single for, well, ever. Im a terrible gift giver the pressure gets to me.
J and I have decided for Christmas this year we will stuff stockings for each other with little things and then we will buy ourselves a new bedding set for our room and splurge a little on nicer bed sheets, etc. depending on what we pick, we might get new curtains for our room as well. We plan to shop for these the week after Christmas while I am off on vacation, and hopefully we can get a good deal!
