So this got looong!
Tl;dr: team green turned team blue after a successful induction, with no epidural.
Some of you may remember I was battling rising blood pressure, and that the induction talk had started around 36 and half weeks or so. One doctor was adamant that induction was happening sooner rather then later and the other was taking a wait and see approach. Coincidentally one of those doctors always got a much higher BP reading then anyone else.
Once I hit 38 weeks we started doing NSTs every few days and the baby always passed, but with each one my BP was creeping higher. When I hit 39 weeks they scheduled a tentative induction for that day, but I wanted to wait another week. We compromised and set 10/15 as 'the day'. What finally convinced me was the calm doctor would be doing the delivery and he seemed way less likely to push for a c-section plus he said some words no pregnant mother wants to hear which is that the baby was safer outside then in.
The induction itself started simply I showed up at 630 and they started IV fluids. Around 9 the doc showed up and checked I was still a 4 and about 50% but the baby was close to a -3, which was good because the last check he was still floating.
Pitocin got started and we walked the halls for a while, I was having contractions every 4 minutes or so but they were no more painful then BH contractions so they decided to break my water I think it was around 12 when that happened. Around 1 I started sitting on the ball as the contractions were picking up on intensity. After 2 or 3 realty intense contractions I asked about pain relief. We decided to try Fentanyl. They warned me that to get an epi I would need a whole new bag of fluids and that could take an hour. I figured I still had time, as it took E 35 hours to make an appearance. They checked me again and gave me the drugs. The Fentanyl was awesome it took the edge off and made me relax quite a bit.
All of the sudden the doctor showed up he checked me again and said no more pain meds. Because the baby would be there within the hour. I panicked a little bit knew that this was it.
Things get fuzzy as the contractions picked up in intensity and the pressure was intense I said a lot of dumb stuff, cussed and tried to give up more then once.
Once it was time to push I tried to just buckle down and focus. After about 40 minutes of pushing Luke was born with his hand coming out next to his cheek. They put him on my chest and rubbed him down. He immediately tried to nurse and was latched in less the 20 minutes. I think I got to hold him for almost 2 hours before they weighed him and checked him. It was so great, after having E whisked away last time.
He weighed in 8lb 1 oz and is 20 inches long. He looks a lot like his brother but some how is different.
That is E day one on the left and Luke on the right.
