People who insist on driving to the merge point instead of zipper merging should have their licenses revoked. BY ME.
but what would you do in the face of a refusal to zipper merge? A common scenario: There is one lane, wide open for at least a 1/2 mile. and one lane backed up for that whole half mile.
Exactly. It's not hard. If you get there first, it's your turn. If there is constant traffic on all sides, the person on the right has the right of way. This shouldn't be that challenging.
The intersection by my parents' house recently became a 4-way stop when they extended one of the roads. When it was just a 2-way stop, it was ok. When it was a 3-way stop, still fine. But as soon as it became a 4-way stop, people became idiots and forgot they had to wait their turn. Seems like people think that as long as they wait for one car to go, it is their turn, regardless of the fact that 2 other cars got to the stop sign before them.
The lane is ending. Every other car let someone go.
people here get all passive aggressive and stay on the front car's bumper, so that there's no room to merge. It's just very bizarre.
It's a two sided issue because people cannot act right. The people in the established lane just need to let a car in front of them and the people trying to merge need to do so in advance of the end point. If everyone behaved this way their would be significantly less traffic.
Like do people not realize that if you just alternate, merging would go smoothly. It's people that try to get over right at the merge point that cause the traffic jams.
Like when there's an accident or construction on the highway so the left lane is merging and everyone is trolling along and some dickwad zooms up and tries to squeeze in. Assholes. My favorite is when semis block them from merging. It's fucking hilarious.
I love when the semis do this.
I totally blocked an asshole from getting ahead of me in a construction merge yesteday. You can see the light for a good half mile before you get to the light that is right before the merge, and your asshole self decided to cut in front of everyone and stay in the right so you can cut people off. Not today mother fucker. I made sure the car behind me was close enough that they weren't getting in there either.
I like when fellow drivers team up to fuck over an asshole on the road.
Zipper merge vs. early merge When most drivers see the first “lane closed ahead” sign in a work zone, they slow too quickly and move to the lane that will continue through the construction area. This driving behavior can lead to unexpected and dangerous lane switching, serious crashes and road rage.
Zipper merging, however, benefits individual drivers as well as the public at large. Research shows that these dangers decrease when motorists use both lanes until reaching the defined merge area and then alternate in “zipper” fashion into the open lane. Watch a brief video of how it works.

Merge somewhere in the middle. Don't be the dick that zooms to the front.

It's the best. Then give a head nod or a flash of your lights for solidarity because FUCK YOU DRIVER IN THE LEFT LANE TRYING TO MERGE WRONG.
But if everyone else was waiting in line and they see you zoom up the side, they aren't going to want to let you in. If there is already an established line of traffic, just get behind it.
I don't think you should talk one day about how you're trying to save money and the next ramble on about the money you spent at Sephora
So I wont' do that - but I will tell you how pretty my eye makeup is today (damn you and your fancy makeup enticement @pobrecita - appearently if I see someone yawn, I yawn; I read about people buying makeup so I buy makeup)

I can get on board with the true zipper merge, 1/4 mile from the start of the construction zone or where ever the lane is ending. But I'm not sure that's what people are getting upset about. It's the people who literally zoom around everyone and stop right in front of the first barrel and then have to cut someone off. That's not how it works, and that messes it up just as much.
Yes! As you see the “lane closed ahead” sign and traffic backing up, stay in your current lane up to the point of merge. Then take turns with other drivers to safely and smoothly ease into the remaining lane. Don't worry about being "Minnesota nice." When traffic is heavy and slow, it is much safer for motorists to remain in their current lane until the point where traffic can orderly take turns merging.

Yes. Don't drive to the cones and squeeze in. Merge somewhere along the way before you get to the cones.
I actually failed my test overall but they allow you to carry over the parking portion to one other test so I knew I had to ace my second test. I was so relieved when I passed and knew I didn't have to parallel park again.

Yeah, we have the exact opposite issue. They speed up so they can get in front of as many people as possible.
