Could have written this myself! My 3 year old got a fever last Thursday, the day before we got home from the hospital and is still fighting it! She has been tested for everything under the sun and diagnosis is just some virus--but a nasty one.
Baby and I are quarantined to my bedroom and my husband is taking care of both kids right now. As heartbreaking as it is I haven't really seen my daughter very much in almost a week and I have had no contact with her--no hugs or snuggles or anything. ?. We are just praying that my 5 year old doesn't get it too since he has been hanging out with my husband and daughter. Once the kids are in bed, my husband takes a decontamination shower and gets some time with baby before my three year old inevitably needs him for something.
I know this sounds crazy extreme, but the fact that this virus has stuck with her so long, the baby really can't get it.
It has been super lonely and I spend half the day crying about it, but I am just really scared about the baby getting something that my three year old can barely handle.
I'm with you. I think my husband is about to lose it taking care of my other two.
Part of me giggles a little because I do it every day-and he works late and weird hours sometimes so the kids might go days without seeing him. He has been really good, though. I just feel bad he is t getting too much time with the baby.
My daughters fever was gone for about 12 hours and I was so excited, but I got my hopes up too soon. Her doctor just prescribed antibiotics because she has had the fever for too long and nothing else is popping up, so we will see. I also really don't want her to miss out on Halloween. She has been looking forward to it for so long, I don't know what we will do if she has to miss it!
I don't think you are over reacting at all. My DD is 2 & was sick last Wednesday - Saturday with a stomach virus. I was changing clothes & washing my face & up to my elbows between kids. I've also cloroxed all things in my house. My DD goes to school 3 days a week & as soon as I pick her up I put sanitizer on her hands then we wash when we get home. Cold & flu season is upon us so I say better safe then sorry!

It's so hard! My 3.5 year old has had 2 colds since my twins were born. She was sick when I delivered. Since they were preemies, the pedi really scared us in the hospital about letting her near them, and we don't have any of those special "siblings all together in the hospital bed with me" pics I had dreamed about.
Anyways, yes, we keep them apart as much as possible. Our toddler is old enough to (sort of kind of) understand what we're asking of her so that helps.
Unfortunately my H just came down with a stupid man cold. I've been relying so heavily on his help but he's out of commission now too.
Our pediatrician says they are contagious until 24 hours after the fever is gone , so we are not so patiently waiting for that point.
What I don't know is what is considered "gone." I know that it isn't really considered a fever until it is above 100, but I kind of feel like it should be back to 98ish until the 24 hours starts, but I suppose it is possible that once it breaks below that 100 mark you are safer.
I have never been so germaphobic in my life! When we were at the pediatrician and the lab getting bili levels checked I would have a mini heart attack any time anyone came near the baby or even talked to me.
We all developed a slight cold a few days after LO was born. None of us had the high fevers though. LO did have some congestion too, but she didn't seem very bothered or impacted by it.
I hope all of your toddlers feel better soon! I'm dreading mine bringing home more serious germs like those!
