So when Jacob was born, I was diagnosed with peripartum cardiomyopathy. My ejection fraction (ef) which is the percentage of blood the heart pumps out versus it's input was 22%, and normal is 55% to 70%.
I had an echo done in September where the numbers on paper showed I was at around 52%, but my cardiologist said it was between 35% and 40%.
Last friday, I had a nuclear scan done, which is more accurate than the echo. I finally got a call from my cardiologist's office this morning...and my EF is 67%!!! So I can finally return to work, once I get clearance from the pulmonologist (who was waiting to clear me until I was cleared by cardiology), and once aetna receives these letters and does whatever they need to on their end to clear me.
Anyone have any experience with returning to work after being on short term disability?
Congratulations! It must be such a relief to see the end in sight! My former workplace required a note to HR from the doctor clearing me for working again with no restrictions. If there were restrictions, then an additional note would be needed when those restrictions were no longer necessary. I believe it also had to be dated, so the wording would read "as of (date), _______ is cleared to return to work with no restrictions."
So happy you got the okay to go back to work!! My Maternity leave and another time that I had to have surgery I was out of work on STD. Both times my companies have just required a note from my doctor stating that I was cleared to return to work and normal activity. Not sure what you do, but if they dont want you doing any heavy lifting or things like that for a few weeks until you are back up to speed they need to have that in the letter as well.

Thanks everyone! I'm so ready for things to be back to normal...whatever our new normal will be.
Returning to work is a bit of a mess right now, since I have been out for 5 months, much longer than the 12 weeks covered by FMLA. So, per our company policy, I still have a job but do not retain my position. They actually just hired someone for my position a few weeks ago. My manager is supposed to call me back Monday or Tuesday about it, since she needed to clarify some things with HR. I have to get release letters from my OB, pulmonologist, and cardiologist, and send them to corporate and aetna, then aetna has to be the one to release me. At least that's what I was told.
