This is why I like pinterest.
Last year I did teethers that said I 'chews' you to be my Valentine.
Since I don't know parents' food/snack preferences for their children, I'll try to stay away from that sort of thing. I saw one cute idea that has a little toy animal tied to the card and the card said, "Will zoo be my Valentine?" or "I'm wild about you"...that sort of thing.

ke2009 The teacher will usually tell you if they are doing anything for Valentines Day. They will also give you a list of the kids' names in the class. I don't think it is mandatory though.
I don't think this a requirement but I know last year Hannah got something from a few of the kids. We had only been there for like a week so I didn't do anything. I don't know all of the kids names so I will probably end up doing something that just says "from Hannah" with no "to".

I'm shocked by this thread, this would never have crossed my mind! Does that make me cold and heartless?! I guess if LO was in elementary school maybe, but DC valentines day....never would have crossed my mind
If they have a "party" they will most likely ask parents to sign up for food (cookies, yogurt bites, crackers, etc) We will not be giving out valentines unless directed otherwise by the teachers.

I plan on doing something for the teachers. I was a dummy and sent chocolate bars with the holiday cards that would have been perfect for valentine's day. They were in red wrapping and I think the brand was chocolove and had an xoxo on it..I was thinking red some Christmasy? I got them at whole foods, so slightly fancier than a Hershey bar. I'm still embarrassed/bitter that I contributed $100 to the teacher holiday fund only for the teacher to hint that that's not preferred. F'ing PTA.

On our "Toddler Gram" that we get everyday in the notes section last night it said that there's a Valentine's Day party on the 13th. Last year I put a mixture of Teddy Grams and Gummy Bears in a clear bag and made a tag for it that said "Bear hugs from Emily" and tied it on with red ribbon. There are only 6 kids in her DC and 3 of them are under 1 year so I figure the parents will just eat what I give. This year I'm still trying to figure it out.

So I used my good idea already by accident.
Excuse me, the teacher hinted at that not being a preferred gift? WTF! It's $100 why did she "prefer"? tallblonde
Re: valentines we won't be doing anything. The kids all make cards for their parents but I don't think there is any exchange between kids. I'll ask though.
I figure she would have preferred I gift gifts or giftcards to the classroom teachers rather than to the fund since it's divided between all teachers/floaters in the program 12w-Prek.. So maybe not everyone gives and the gift turns out to be pretty small? Or maybe people give some to the fund and also give gifts to the teachers? The teachers did thank him for the candy bar and made a big deal about it, but I felt silly - but I guess they have no way to know who gave how much to the fund, but I did say "we contributed to the holiday fund" and she kind of made a face...unprofessional yes, but she's really great with the kids and the management is the worst, so I'm not shocked that teacher's maybe don't love the holiday fund. I guess I just wish I had figured that out before I donated the recommended amount and showed up with a dinky candy bar.
E isn't in DC, but when I was looking at gifts for DH from E on pinterest, I came accross these. I thought they were pretty cute. I might do a couple up for E's cousins.

Update: Daycare sent home a class list and a letter that did all but require Valentines, even if your child doesn't attend on Fridays when the party is. I'm not pleased. I guess I'll be getting a box of overpriced cheesy valentines for kids that can't read. It wouldn't bother me as much if we at least knew half of them, but Hayley is usually the second kid there and the last for pick up, I had no idea she even had 9 kids in her class. I knew we added 2 recently but I guess a few others slipped in since September without my noticing.
So the grinch has to do Valentine's Day after all!

I had no clue people did Valentine's for 1year olds! I just picked up some individual bags of goldfish and plan to put a, "Love, name" on it and call it a day.
I was going to do bubbles since I don't know if all the kids parents let them have goldfish, but then I realized I was thinking too much into it. I mean, he's 1.
