We currently have carpet which needs to be replaced and are trying to decide what to replace it with. I'm curious to know what you have and if you like it.
We have tile and carpet. Tile in the entry way and through the kitchen with a carpet patch in the living room area (all one big room). The tile is a pain...the grout gets stained and looks dirty. The carpet has pros and cons. Do you have pets? We have a dog so because of him I would prefer hardwoods easier to clean and don't get smelly. Though I do like the carpet because I feel it is softer to put LO down on to play.
We have hardwood, and will probably get a rug soon for DD for the family room. I would definitely go with hardwood, or wood laminate, especially if you ever want to sell. Our old place had carpet, and it got so dirty and dingy looking. We are still trying to sell it, and just a few weeks ago had to replace the carpet with wood laminate in hopes that it will help it to sell since no one wants carpet anymore.
ETA: We have a cat, so the hardwood is SO much easier to clean.

We have carpet, tile and hardwood. We are switching the kitchen and family room to hardwood and leaving the living room and dining room (now playroom) in carpet. I think any area that gets a lot of traffic should be anything other than carpet. Carpet can get really gross.

We have one cat. We have hardwood in the front entryway and dining area and I would love to extend it to the living room but I am not sure if carpet would be better for LO. Our upstairs is mostly carpet so we are either going to replace all carpet or just put hardwood in the living room and wait on the rest of the carpet.

We have carpet through out and tile in the entry way and kitchen. I would strongly advice to do hardwood floors or the like and then add rugs, it's so much nicer and easier to clean up! I hate our carpet, I had to put down rugs everywhere it feels like.
We have hardwood. Our house is a 1950's ranch and the owners we bought it from had owned it since shortly after it was built and when we bought it a few years ago most of it still had a 1950s look. There was carpet EVERYWHERE (including the bathrooms) and it was kind of horrifying. We ripped it out and the original hardwood floors were underneath. They needed some repairs and refinishing but we love it. I just lay down blankets for LO but may invest in a rug. I love how easy cleaning is.

We have tile in the kitchen/bathrooms. I hate the tile in the kitchen because it has really wide grout lines and food gets stuck in the there. Laminate throughout the rest of the house. We have a large rug for DS to play on. I would never put carpet in but I have two dogs they shed like crazy. It's enough work keeping the rug for DS clean and the dogs are not even allowed in it.
I'm the lone laminate voter simply because that's what we've done. We just bought new flooring for our new house for the living room, dining room, and kitchen. The dining room and living room have an awful pinkish/purple carpet. I would have loved to do real hardwood, but for the square footage we are doing, real wood was out of the budget. But our laminate is a pretty greyish rustic wood look. I'm excited, plus it is more durable than hardwood.
We have a high quality laminate that the previous owners put in in the main living areas and carpet in the bedrooms. I voted laminate because hardwood is expensive and can scratch easily and needs refinishing from time to time. If you get a good laminate that won't peel or damage easily then it will last longer. Everyone thinks ours is real wood. We have a dog and it still looks brand new. I really, really like the tile that looks like wood.
Our living room is hardwood and we just bought a large area rug shortly after J was born and it is perfect. The other carpet in our house is disgusting and I feel like we should rip it out in order to sell our house. But our hardwood is original with the house, we just had to sand and refinish it. It is beautiful.
We have hardwood. I love the way it looks and the functionality of it. However, we spend a lot of time on the floor with both of our kids and it's fairly uncomfortable. We have a small area rug but really need to get a better area rug. Something more padded. I will not go back to wall to wall carpeting.

Hardwood everywhere. Except bathrooms, those are tile. We have a large area rug in the playroom and a smaller one in the living room. It really helps resale value.
We used to have hardwood everywhere in our first house (1950s cape). Now we have hardwoods most of downstairs but bedrooms and den are carpet. It's nice to have both. We don't wear shoes inside so the carpet has stayed decently nice.
We have laminate for the most part (2 closets have carpet and one room we don't use much has vinyl I think, I think we are going to put laminate in there too).
The laminate is easy to clean and sanitize so I like that. I do notice the dirt/dust more, but that just makes me cringe knowing how filthy our carpet really was.
THIS!!! When I sweep every other day because the dust bunnies drive me bananas I always think how gross carpets are! I will never go back. We have an area rug in the living room and nursery for DS but that's it.
